Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center
in the County of Hennepin and State of
Minnesota
April 8, 1963
The Village Council met in Regular session and was called to order
by Mayor Gordon Ericksoar $t 7:30 P. M.
Roll Call: Mayor Gordon Erickson, John Leary, Henry Dorff, and Howard
Heck were present. Trustee Phil Cohen was absent.
Father Morrissy of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church gave the invocation
for the meeting.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to approve the
minutes of the meeting of April 1, 1963 as recorded. Motion carried.
Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by John Leary to uphold the
action of the Planning Commission and approve application #63011 as
submitted by John Rowland to extend the Special Use Permit for displaying a
garage and sales office at 6214 Fremont Avenue North for a period of one
Year from April 1, 1963 to April 1, 1964 provided:
1. There shall be no outdoor display of fences, patio blocks,
building materials or building accessories.
2. The sole purpose of the permit is for the sale of garages.
The Village Council further declares that the council reserves the right to
refuse the renewal of the Special Permit. Motion carried.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Henry Dorff to uphold the
action of the Planning Commission and approve application #63010
submitted by Glen Holman and grant permission to sub divide part of Lots 1
and 2 of Sutters Addition with a variance on lot width and .area, allowing
one lot at 5743 Humboldt Avenue North to be 70' x 133.8' and one lot at
5755 Humboldt Avenue North to be 76.4 x 133.8'. Motion carried .
Motion by Henry Dorff and seconded by John Leary to uphold the .
action of the Planning Commission and approve application #63012
submitted by Charles Thompson for a variance of Section 35 -603 and that _
permission be granted to build a single family dwelling on that part of Lot 22,
Auditors Subdivision No. 216 described as follows.
Commencing at a point on the South line of lot 22 Auditors Subdivision
No. 216, Hennepin County, Minnesota, a distance 505.01' west from
the South east corner thereof; thence North 17 degrees East a distance
of 158.55 thence North 22 degrees West a distance of 285.0';
thence South 65 degrees West to the shore of Twin Lake; thence
southly along said shore line to the south line of hot 22; thence
East along the south line of said Lot 22 to the point of begining0
For purposes of this survey the south line of Lot 22 is assumed to
bear South 88 degrees West.
This permission is granted on the condition that the dwelling be located
on the tract of land as shown on a survey drawing identified as file #927 -12
prepared by Caswell Engineering Co. on 4- 8 -63 and that the basement
grade shall beat elevation 855.5 and it is further understood that in the
absence of a public street approval of this request shall not obligate the
Village in any manner to furnish utilities, streets, snow removal of any
village service other than those that the present or future owner may be
legally entitled to. Motion carried.
Motion by Howard Heck. and seconded by Henry Dorff to uphold the
action of the Planning Commission and approve in part application #63013
submitted by Marvin Brown to erect a pedestal sign at 4401 69th Avenue

North. Permission is granted to errect one double faced illuminated, non-
flashing, pedestal type sign four feet high and six feet wide with the bottom
of the sign eight feet above the lot grade. The base of the sign shall be
13 feet south of the north property line and three feet east of the west line
and no part of the sign shall extend over or beyond the property line.
Motion carried.
The Village Council gave first reading to an Ordinance amending
Section 3 -302 of the Village Ordinances concerning the minimum gross
floor area of dwelling units.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to approve the

Motion carried.
The bills having been audited, motion was made by Henry Dorff
and seconded by Howard Heck to order paid the bills set forth in the
schedule attached to these minutes and made a part thereof. Motion carried.
Mr. Cohen assumed his place at the Council table at 9 :35 P. M.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to authorize
the sale at Public auction abandoned property now held by the Police
Department of the Village of Brooklyn Center, The sale to be conducted
at 6445 Lyndale Avenue North. at 9 :00 A. M. on the 27th day of April 1963.
Motion carried.
Motion by Henry Dorff and seconded by John Leary that the Village
Council determine that a 1954 Chevrolet known as #32 is no longer needed
for Village purposes and authorize its sale to the person submitting the
highest offer. Motion carried.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to adjourn.
The Village Council adjourned at 10 :40 P. M.
