HomeMy WebLinkAbout1963 12-16 CCM Special Session Minutes of the Proceedings of the Village Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center In the County of Hennepin and State of Minnesota December 16, 1963 The Village Council met in Special Session and was called to order by Mayor. Gordon Erickson at 7 :30 P. M. Roll Call: lWayor Gordon Erickson, Phil Cohen, Henry Dorff, John Leary and Howard Heck were present. The invocation for the meeting was given by Rev. Amos LeVang. Motion by Phil Cohen and seconded by John Leary to approve the minutes of the meeting of December 9, 1963 as recorded. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by John Leary and seconded by Henry Dorff to appoint the following men as police patrolmen effective January 2, 1964. Donald Sollars of 716 57th Avenue North and Albert X. Johnson of 7001 71st Avenue North. Motion carried unanimously. The Village Council considered a resolution authorizing the installation of certain stop signs and yield signs on 59th Avenue and on Logan Avenue. It was determined to cant' the matter over to the next council meeting after there has been press coverage of the fact that the council was considering this item. The council considered a resolution "Requesting the Appointment of Home Rule Charter Commission" and determined to defer action until they were prepared to recommend the names of prospective charter commission members to the District Court. The Village Council discussed the proceedure to be followed to proceed with the preparation of plans for a library building. It was determined that the Mayor should confer with the chairman of the library committee to determine the role of the library committee in the selection of the architect for the project. Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck that the Village Council determine that the large Diebold, safe located in the municipal building and identifed as fixed asset #222, is unnecessary for municipal purposes and authorize the administrator to sell it for the highest offer. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by Phil Cohen to authorize the Brooklyn Center Fire Department Relief Association to invest $10,000 in certificates of deposit at an interest rate of 4%. Motion carried unanimously. Motion by Phil Cohen and seconded by Howard Heck to approve the following licenses: Cigarette Licenses Bill West Pure Oil Station 5700 No. Lilac Drive Purity Dairy Store 902 53rd Avenue North Garbage Hauling License Boyer Garbage Service Hamel, Minnesota Heat Lic Richard W. Doyle Heating Co. 3415 31st Avenue South Non Intoxicating Malt Liquor Purity Dairy Store 902 53rd Avenue North Motion carried unanimously. -i- 99 r Motion by Phil Cohen &nd seconded by Howard Heck to appoint the following persons for work in the Recreation Program: Ronald Mickelson Warmer House Supervisor $ 1.50/hr. Carol Hogenson Teen Nite & Racing Supervisor 3.00 /hr. Dorothy Scholtz Girls Gym Nite Instructor 4.00/hr. James L. Jones Hockey Supervisor 4.00 /hr. Motion carried unanimously. The Village Council discussed a Capital Improvements Program. Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to adjourn. The Village Council adjourned at 11:50 P.M. Motion carried unanimously.
