Minutes of the Proceedings of the Village
Council of the Village of Brooklyn Center
in the County of Hennepin and State of
Minnesota
May 4, 1964
The Village Council met in Special Session and was called to order
by Mayor Gordon Erickson at 7 :30 P. M.
Roll Call: Present were Mayor Gordon Erickson, Howard Deck, John
Leary and Phil Cohen. Clerk Henry Dorff was absent.
In the absence of Clerk Henry Dorff, A. J. Lee, Administrator, recorded
the minutes.
Motion by Phil Cohen and seconded by John Leary to approve the
minutes of the meeting of April. 27, 1964 as corrected. Motion carried
unanimously.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to appoint
Quentin Tuma as a temporary laborer in the Park Department at a wage of
$2# 2 0/hour. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by Phil Cohen to appoint
h arvin Mohr as a temporary laborer in the Park Department at a wage of
$2.20. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to appoint Carl.
Swing as a temporary laborer in the Street Department at a wage of $2.20 /hr.
Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by John Leary to appoint
iMiland Brown as a temporary inspector in the Engineering Department at a
wage 'of $2.20/hr. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Phil Cohen and seconded by Howard Heck to appoint
Dale Magnuson as a part time Clerk in the Liquor Store at a wage of $1.50
per hour. Motion carried unanimously.
Motion by Phil Cohen and seconded by John Leary to appoint Louis
Hartmann, Weed Inspector for 1964 at a wage of $1.75 per hour plus mileage.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Village Council directed the administrator to prepare the necessary
resolution to compensate the Assemblies of God Church for'an easement for
storm sewer and sanitary sewer across their property.
The Council discussed the problem of providing for the safety of the
children in construction areas and the vandalism oecuring on construction project
The Administrator and the Chief of Police were instructed to review the curfew
ordinance and made recommendations concerning the same to the Village Council,
Motion by Howard Heck and seconded by John Leary to authorize the
printing of a safety pamphlet to be distributed to the elementary schools.
Motion carried unanimously.
The Village Council discussed the resolution setting forth policy for
the construction of sidewalk. The Administrator was instructed to check the
policy in other suburban communities relative to the replacement of sod and
the adjustment of driveways connected with sidewalk construction.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the

Motion carried unanimously.
The Village Council reviewed the Administrative Code submitted by the
Administrator and returned it to him for revision.
Mr. Poss reviewed several proposed construction projects involving storm
sewer, sanitary sewer and water main construction across Interstate Highway.
Motion by John Leary and seconded by Howard Heck to 4ourn. Motion
carried unanimously. The Village Council adjourn at 12,15 A. M.
