by said Council.
October 13, 1959
The Village Council met in regular session and was called to order
by Mayor William Super at 8;15 P.M.
Roll Call: Myor Super, Clifford Wellman, Carl Carlson, Wayne
Gageby and Russ Jones were present,
Motion by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Clifford Wellman that the
Village Council approve the minutes of the Special Meetings of September 29
and September 30, 1959 as recorded. Motion carried,
Motion by Carl Carlson and seconded by Clifford Wellman to accept
the low bid of Automatic Voting YAchine Division - Rockwell Manufacturing
Company, Jamestown, New York in the amount of $38,064.00, f.o.b. Brooklyn
Center, as per their proposal form and contract. Motion carried.
Member Russ Janes introduced the following Ordinance authorizing
an increase in the salaries paid to the Mayor and Trustees and moved its
adoption:
AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING AN INCREASE IN THE SALARIES
PAID TO THE MAYOR AND TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF
BROOKLYN CENTER (SUBJECT TO VOTER APPROVAL THEREOF)
WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes 412.181 authorizes the council to
increase the salaries of the mayor and trustees in villages with
approval of the voters;
AND WHEREAS, the council deems the present salary of the mayor
and trustees inadequate to compensate them for the work incident to
these offices and to attract qualified candidates to run for such
offices;
THE COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF BROOKLYN CENTER ORDAINS:
1. Commencing January 2, 1960, the salary of the mayor is
fixed at $1800.00 per year and the salary of each trustee
is fixed at $1560.00 per year.
P. This ordinance shall be submitted to the voters of the
village at the regular election on December 8, 1959, and
shall not become effective unless and until it is
approved by a majority of those voting upon the question
as provided by law, nor in any event before the date
specified in Section 1.
The motion for the adoption of the foregoing Ordinance was duly seconded by
member Clifford Wellman and upon vote being taken thereon, the following
voted in favor thereof: William Super, Clifford Wellman, Wayne Gageby and
Russ Jones; and the following voted against the same: Carl Carlson;
whereupon said ordinance was declared duly passed and adop',;ed.
Motion by Clifford Wellman and seconded by Wayne Gageby that the
Village Attorney be authorized to terminate the existing contract between
Mrs. Schmidt and the Village of Brooklyn Center, subject to the contract
being brought to date according to the terms of the contract. Motion carried.
Motion by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Russ Jones that, upon
recommendation of the Village Engineer, the street bonds for Bergstrom *s
Lynside Manor 2nd and 3rd Additions be released, in the amounts of $8000.00
and $5500.00 respectively. Motion carried.
Motion by Carl Carlson and seconded by Clifford Wellman, that
effective November 1, 1959, the Village policy of free permits pertaining
to construction of non - profit organization buildings be suspended. Motion
carried
The bills set forth on the schedule attached to these minutes
and made a part hereof entitled "The Bills Audited and Paid at the Meeting
of October 13, 1959" were audited and ordered paid.
Motion by Wayne Gageby and seconded by Carl Carlson to adjourn..
Motion carried.
