CONSIDERATION OF PURCHASE OF HOME ON WHICH THE HRA HAS ISSUED A REHABILITATION
GRANT
Administrative Assistant Hoffman pointed out that presently the HRA has in
interest in the property of approximately $3,000 through a rehabilitation
grant. He pointed out the City has several options, including doing nothing
and letting the house be sold at auction, bidding on the house and protecting
the City's position or obtaining the property by a quitclaim deed, and negotiating
the purchase with the bank holding the mortgage.
The City Attorney indicated he had not examined the title for any other possible
liens and recommended that the property be abandoned if a great amount of
existing liens is found or a great amount of back taxes are owed. Administrative
Assistant Hoffman pointed out that he would propose the HRA re -sell the property
and keep it as a single family home in Brooklyn Center.
There was a motion by Councilmember Lhotka and seconded by Councilmember Theis
to authorize the staff to take action to protect the HRA's lien position,
including purchase or through negotiation or auction. Voting in favor:
Chairman Nyquist, Commissioners Lhotka, Hawes, and Theis. Voting against:
