Meeting Minutes
February 14, 1995
PRESENT:
Kragness, Bergeland, Ditty, Pollock, Holcomb, Nelson, Nerburn, Slupske, and
LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
No report from treasurer. LaCrosse said the Lions club has given
EBD the money for the 1994 parade. Committee members would like a letter of identification or
a card to present to businesses when soliciting donations. LaCrosse said she would send copies of
the 1994 final committee budgets so chairs could submit their 1995 budget requests.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS APPOINTMENTS:
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by
Bergeland to appoint Dorff, Neilson, Nelson and Slupske to a three year term. Motion carried.
ARTS & CRAFTS:
Holcomb has a letter ready to go out to exhibitors. There was a
suggestion by many 1994 exhibitors to stay open past 6 p.m. on Friday. Holcomb would like to
stay open until 8 p.m. on Friday. The committee approved her request.
BARN DANCE
: Kragness said there has been some requests for a different style of music.
She also said it was suggested to have a free dance or charge $1 per ticket. Nelson has an idea
for a band. LaCrosse suggested a polka band called the Chmielewski's. Holcomb suggested the
Jets. The Rockin' Hollywoods and the White Sidewalls were also suggested. LaCrosse said she
will do some checking on availability and cost of the Jets, Rockin' Hollywoods and the White
Sidewalls.
BINGO:
Ditty said the Brooklyn Swim Club would like to do Bingo again this year.
CAR SHOW:
Nerburn said the 50's National will be held the weekend of EBD. He proposed
having his show the weekend before EBD and moving the show to Brookdale in the Tiger lot. He
would also like to put a couple cars inside Brookdale to help promote the show. Kragness will
talk to Linda Smith at Brookdale about the possibility.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Kragness said a new ice cream establishment will be opening at
Brookdale.

JUNIOR ROYALTY:
No report.
8:30 a.m. Swanson arrived.
FISHING CONTEST:
Ditty said he will check with the sporting goods company to see if
they wish to sponsor the contest again. LaCrosse said last year she was approached by a
representative from the Holiday stores. He is interested in the sponsoring the fishing contest.
LaCrosse said she was concerned about the contest becoming too large with the extra publicity.
Also, the recreation department hires the leaders to work the contest and cannot afford to hire
more staff. Someone suggested that holiday pay the costs of extra leaders.
PARADE:
Kragness said she talked to Risley and he is too busy to chair the parade
committee. LaCrosse asked Ditty if he would consider it. He said he would think about it.
Kragness said we will wait to hear back from the Lions club as to how much they can contribute
to the parade.
PICNIC/GAMES:
No report.
PUBLICITY:
LaCrosse said she needs to order letterhead and envelopes. The committee said to
order 5,000 of each. Swanson will order logo sheets.
SUB-STATION:
Nelson talked to Sgt. Roth and he is in favor of the teen dance. KDWB
will come back. Expenses would include portable toilets and a magician. Ditty said there is a
magician school and possibly some of their students could perform. They ask for a small donation
to the school. Holcomb said she would be interested in having some students perform at the arts
and crafts fair.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK:
LaCrosse said the Teddy Bear Band and The
Foundation are scheduled to perform.
TALENT CONTEST:
No report.
NEW BUSINESS:
Kragness requested the committee renew its membership to the
Minnesota Festivals and Events Association at a cost of $25. There was a motion by Ditty,
seconded by Holcomb to renew membership. Motion carried.
LaCrosse passed around information about the University of Minnesota water ski team. They
would like to put on a show on Sunday, June 25. The cost is $700. They have secured parking
at the North West Swim and Racquet Club. LaCrosse said we would probably need to find a
sponsor. She has talked to Joel Downer in the police department and he did not see a problem.
However, we would have to get permission from the DNR, City of Robbinsdale, and City of
Crystal. Slupske suggested talking to Holiday stores about sponsorship. He would be willing to

work on the committee.
