Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
February 12, 1996
PRESENT:
Cohen, Roen, Ditty, Graham and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:41 a.m. by Cohen.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Cohen to
approve the January 9 minutes. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: No report.
Mary Nelson arrived at 7:45 a.m. to announce her resignation. She said the substation
will have some type of family event and will have a new liaison to the committee. She
said she has enjoyed her work with the Earle Brown Days committee. Cohen thanked
her for her contribution.
LaCrosse passed out the guidelines for holding a raffle. She said we have to show
proof of good standing with the State. This costs $5 and she will send for it. According
to the person she talked to at the State, we would fall under one of two categories. The
Excluded Raffle Application or the Exemption From Lawful Gambling Applications. It
was decided everyone should read this information and we will discuss it further at the
March meeting.
7:47 Holcomb arrived.
JUNIOR ROYALTY:
Graham said the Aquatennial has shifted from the name
Junior Royalty to Junior Ambassador because of the good will spread by the children.
She asked that EBD consider this name change. There was a motion by Ditty
seconded by Holcomb to change the name of the Junior Royalty program -to Junior
Ambassadors. Motion carried.

Graham said the committee talked about getting a sponsor for the program. Cohen
said the thought since the Junior Ambassadors represent Brooklyn Center, the
Chamber or a regional business could sponsor. He said we should wait until next year
to pursue a sponsor. Graham said she needs two checks, one to the Aquatennial and
one for photo buttons.
ARTS & CRAFTS:
Holcomb said the letters went out and she has received five
applications back. LaCrosse said the letters have not gone out to food vendors
because she is waiting for the new licensing information from Hennepin County.
BINGO:
Cohen asked if there would be Bingo again. Ditty said the swim club
would like to sponsor the event again.
CAR SHOW:
LaCrosse said she has talked with Nerburn and the show will be held on
Sunday, June 30 at Brookdale.
DANCE:
Mann has resigned from the EBD committee. Graham said she
might have someone interested in chairing this committee. She wondered if a DJ would
go over. Cohens thought is to keep the dance idea open until next month. Committee
members will come with ideas.
DISCOVER THE CENTER:
LaCrosse said she thinks they will still be having the
fun run/walk. She will call Karen Youngberg.
FISHING CONTEST:
Ditty said he will contact North Country about donating
prizes and getting a unit in the parade.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
No report.
PARADE:
Ditty said the Lions Club meets Thursday evening and he will try to
get the donation increased to cover the cost of the band prize money. LaCrosse gave
Ditty some parade application requests from units who want to be paid. Ditty said there
is no money to pay units. LaCrosse has a standard letter on file to send to them. Ditty
said the parade route will be reversed. LaCrosse said she received a call from Dave
Grass of the police department and he will be the parade liaison for security. She said
Ditty should plan on meeting with him.
PICNIC/GAMES:
No report.
PUBLICITY:
LaCrosse said the recreation activities brochure deadline is
March 6. We must finalize activities at the March 12 meeting.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK:
LaCrosse said the entertainment is set with Kit

& Kaboodle at 6:30 and Schieks at 8 p.m.
TALENT CONTEST:
No report.
COMMUNITY CENTER 25TH
: LaCrosse said the celebration will be on one day,
June 30. The cost to use the community center will be the same as when it opened.
There will be cake served at Sunday In Central Park. There was a motion by Holcomb,
seconded by Graham to include the 25th anniversary of the community center on EBD
publicity. Motion carried.

There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Holcomb to pay these bills. Motion carried.
