HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996 07-23 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes July 23, 1996 PRESENT: Bergeland, Slupske, Zastrow, Dorff, Roen, Nerburn, Neilson, Cohen, Holcomb, Graham and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 a.m. by Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Nerburn to approve the minutes of June 25, 1996. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported a balance of $12,503.59 as of July 23, 1996. BINGO: No report. CAR SHOW: Nerburn blames the club for not getting word out. He said the word is not getting out at any of the shows. He wants to see more effort put on this. Attendance was down, but he would like to keep it at Brookdale. Maybe they could put up a sign on Brooklyn Boulevard  that day. He would like to get in Brooklyn Parks parade.  FINANCE: Cohen said we dont want to over solicit. He wants to approach Target. Cohen wants to discuss what amount of money we need to operate. He suggests we do this at another meeting. ICE CREAM SOCIAL: Graham said they ran out of ice cream. The junior ambassador children did not receive any. Holcomb said everyone stayed around during both groups. Neilson said since the talent contest has been eliminated, he would be willing to work with Brookdale. Slupske said a decade ago they had a speaker come to a board of directors meeting. The speaker said to have as many events as possible located in the same area. He thinks our events are too spread out. ARTS & CRAFTS: Holcomb reported the exhibitors thought the advertising was excellent. They had 224 people sign up for the door prize and they drew new people because of the Star Tribune ads. 8:10 a.m. Youngberg arrived. Holcomb said attendance was down. They had 62 booth spaces. The request is to do the show on Saturday and Sunday next year. Slupske said, excluding the parade and Sunday In Central Park, all other events should be 1 centrally located. Cohen said the key is to get volunteer help and keep it going with resources and the people we have. Holcomb said other suggestions are to have a catered community picnic, ice cream social Friday night, ran into 4th of July week, crafter demonstrations, puppet show, sail boat, demonstrations in dance, gymnastics, karate, and put a roof on information booth. Slupske would like to discuss what areas are available for events and consider putting events in the same locations. Cohen suggested combining this discussion with a special budget meeting. Cohen suggested a police or fire department challenge as a possible event. Motion carried. PICNIC/GAMES - Dorff said they had 81 adults and 122 children. He said it has steadily been going down. He thinks it has to do with publicity and weather. Cohen said we could combine with an open house and the police station and bring in a helicopter. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, August 20, 7:30 a.m., Conference Room A at City Hall.
