Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
May 7, 1996
PRESENT:
Roen, Zastrow, Dorff, Graham, Bergeland, Cohen, and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m. by Dorff.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Zastrow, seconded by Roen to
approve the minutes from April 16. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported a balance of $16,417.37 as of May 7, 1996.
ARTS & CRAFTS:
LaCrosse passed out the paid publicity proposal for the Earle Brown Days
celebration and the Arts & Crafts Fair. LaCrosse said we will have a flyer insert in the next
chamber mailing at no cost. Bergeland said she is the chamber representativeto the Earle
Brown Days board.
7:50 a.m. Ditty arrived.
LaCrosse went over the various options and said her recommendation was Option C. Cohen
made a motion, seconded by Ditty to accept Option C with modifications to add 100 posters
and to run the Osseo/Maple Grove Press ad twice. Motion carried.
BINGO:
Ditty said the swim club could use about 2,000 flyers to distribute at the meets.
LaCrosse will get them printed.
CAR SHOW:
No report.
FINANCE/BUDGET:
Cohen said the letters are out. Bergeland said John McFarland is
the general manager for the Hilton. LaCrosse will get a new letter typed up for Cohen and
Dorffs signatures.
8:04 a.m. Youngberg arrived.
FISHING CONTEST:
Ditty said the past sponsor is still thinking about it. LaCrosse said
she has already promoted the event with his company on the flyer. She added the fishing
contest option to the donation application in case backed out.
JUNIOR ROYALTY:
Graham said the applications are coming in. She has eight so far.
They will have an informational table at the summer recreation registration on Saturday.
LaCrosse asked if they would have some EBD schedules at the table also.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
No report.

PARADE:
Ditty said Dave Anderson of the engineering department is helping to
revise the maps. The odd and even units will be lined up separately. The judges stand will
be in the same area. The grand marshal is Jodi Brandvold.
PICNIC/GAMES:
Dorff said he doesnt see any changes. He will go to a Rotary
meeting and hopefully receive support from them both financially and with volunteers.
Youngberg asked for flyers to send to rally participants. One of the things that keeps coming
out of the rallies is people want to have a community picnic and she has told them we have
one already.
PUBLICITY:
LaCrosse said that besides the paid publicity, she will attempt to
get all of the free publicity she can. She said the new banner approved by the board will go
along the fence of the golf course to attract those traveling along Highway 100. She said this
was Dorffs idea and is okay with Arnie Mavis. It was suggested a banner be put up at the
corner of 69th & Humboldt, perhaps at the liquor store. There was a motion by Bergeland,
seconded by Zastrow to order two new banners with a phone # and dates and to drop one
week of ads in the Osseo/Maple Grove Press. Motion carried.
There are several sign boards located in the City. They include Brooklyn Center High School,
Park Center High School, Days Inn, Bridgemans, Ground Round, Taco Bell, Pilgrim Cleaners
and Maranatha. Zastrow said the bank has a reader sign behind the tellers and she will see
about putting something on that. LaCrosse will draft a letter to be signed by Dorff requesting
these businesses put up EBD info during the festival week. LaCrosse asked board members
to call her with any additional businesses.
SUBSTATION:
No report.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK:
LaCrosse said everything is set. A resident in
Brooklyn Center donated money toward a moon walk.
10K & 2 MILE RUN/WALK:
Youngberg said they have several registrations.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dorff handed out the business contact sheet to be used to get
prizes and gift certificates. He has been contacting a few of the businesses in the warehouse
district. The committee made some revisions to the master list. LaCrosse asked if people
would update the business list as they went along and also indicate what the business gave.
She would like all the sheets back so she can use it to compile next years master list.
PAYMENT OF BILLS:
New Market $37.27 Cake - Junior Ambass.
Holcomb asked for approval to pay the arts & crafts magazine for the ad that appeared some
time ago. It seems it is past due but she never received an invoice. She said they are
sending an invoice to LaCrosse and she would like to have it paid right away.
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Bergeland to pay these bill. Motion carried.

NEW BUSINESS:
Dorff passed out a proposal for a writing contest. People would be asked
to submit in 100 words or less what they love about Brooklyn Center. There would be four
age cateories and winners would be recognized at the opening ceremony and ride in the
parade. He said LaCrosse said maybe it should be held next year so it can be publicized
better. LaCrosse said it would be nice to print them in the tabloid.
