Meeting Minutes
May 21, 1996
PRESENT:
Roen, Zastrow, Dorff, Graham, Bergeland, Cohen, Holcomb, Deanna McCarthy
from Brookdale and LaCrosse.
The meeting was called to order at 7:40 a.m. by Dorff.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Ditty to approve
the minutes from May 7. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported a balance of $14,868.20 as of May 21, 1996.
ARTS & CRAFTS:
Holcomb said she has 35 crafters and 5 food vendors. The bad news is
there is no entertainment. She spent $300 on entertainment last year. The committee said
she should go ahead and hire the same person. She asked Bergeland about parking RVs on
the grounds. Bergeland said there is no way to run electric or water to them. They can use
the electrical located outside. Holcomb said she will have one more food vendor and one
more crafter if they can stay overnight.
BINGO:
Ditty will pick up the flyers at the community center.
CAR SHOW:
No report.
FINANCE/BUDGET:
Cohen said there are two banks that havent kicked in yet.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
McCarthy said they have made a lot of progress. Sebastian Jones
is donating the ice cream and Daytons is donating staff. Toys R Us have been contacted
to provide games and their mascot. LaCrosse said Lori already arranged to have the
community band perform. Cohen will prepare an agenda for Brookdale. Neilson will probably
emcee.
8:05 a.m. Youngberg & Graham arrived.
FISHING CONTEST:
Ditty said the owner has been on vacation so he does not have
definite answer about their sponsorship.
JUNIOR ROYALTY:
Graham said there are 7 boys and 8 girls registered. The Post ran
an article and the application deadline has now been extended through the end of May.
PARADE:
Ditty said the maps are set. He has been promised a lot of help from the
Lions Club. There are 12 bands signed up including River Falls, Osseo, Monticello, Champlin
Park, Alexander-Jefferson, Henry Sibley, Richfield, Irondale, St. Michael, Park Center. The

judging area will be held on 65th & Humboldt. LaCrosse said the council cannot accept the
use of a convertible at the parade. The committee decided the council can pay $20 to use a
convertible, provide their own transportation or walk.
PICNIC/GAMES:
Dorff said they will continue with the same format.
PUBLICITY:
LaCrosse said she still wants to order some signs. Youngberg said
to contact Chuck at Greenwood Graphics. Zastrow said she could use five signs. LaCrosse
said because of the construction on 69th, it would not pay to put up the banner on the liquor
store. Cass Screw was suggested. Bergeland will talk to Dale Greenwald. LaCrosse asked
for articles for the tabloid be submitted no later than June 1. Holcomb will write an article
about the arts & crafts fair and Graham will write an article about junior ambassadors.
SUBSTATION:
No report.
SUNDAY IN CENTRAL PARK:
LaCrosse said everything is set. A resident in
Brooklyn Center donated money toward a moon walk.
10K & 2 MILE RUN/WALK:
Youngberg said they have several registrations.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dorff handed out the business contact sheet to be used to get
prizes and gift certificates. He has been contacting a few of the businesses in the warehouse
district. The committee made some revisions to the master list. LaCrosse asked if people
would update the business list as they went along and also indicate what the business gave.
She would like all the sheets back so she can use it to compile next years master list.
PAYMENT OF BILLS:
New Market $37.27 Cake - Junior Ambass.
Holcomb asked for approval to pay the arts & crafts magazine for the ad that appeared some
time ago. It seems it is past due but she never received an invoice. She said they are
sending an invoice to LaCrosse and she would like to have it paid right away.
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Bergeland to pay these bill. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Dorff passed out a proposal for a writing contest. People would be asked
to submit in 100 words or less what they love about Brooklyn Center. There would be four
age categories and winners would be recognized at the opening ceremony and ride in the
parade. He said LaCrosse said maybe it should be held next year so it can be publicized
better. LaCrosse said it would be nice to print them in the tabloid. The committee decided to
hold it over until next year.
