November 19, 1996
PRESENT:
Roen, Dorff, Zastrow, Cohen, Ditty, Tony Kuefler and LaCrosse. The meeting
was called to order at 7:37 a.m. by Dorff.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Zastrow to
approve the minutes of October 15, 1996. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported a financial balance of $2,727.38 in checking and
$7,500 in a CD as of November 19, 1996. We should earn about $146.22 from the CD.
Arts & Crafts:
No report.
Car Show:
LaCrosse said Nerburn called to say the car show would be held at
Brookdale another year. He would like to put up some banners along Brooklyn Blvd. and
County Rd. 10. This would be at an additional cost. Cohen suggested he contact the auto
dealers because they are somewhat related and we dont solicit them for funds. LaCrosse
said she asked him to get her the exact size of the signs and the location he is proposing.
Hall Of Fame:
No report.
Ice Cream Social:
No report.
Junior Ambassador:
Cohen asked if they will be able to raise enough of their own
money to use the Heritage Center. He asked that Graham be contacted for a report for the
next meeting.
Kids Fishing Contest:
Ditty said he is going to contact Holiday Sports on Brooklyn Blvd.
for sponsorship.
Parade:
Ditty said the Aquatennial sent a nice letter. Maple Grove High School has a
band. The Lions will talk about improving the line-up area. LaCrosse suggested we have a
badge made with Tony Ditty, Parade Chairman. The Park Center band director will attend
some of their parade meetings. The parade route will be the same. Cohen suggested there
be some floating judges.
Picnic/Games:
Dorff said it will be the same format. Cohen asked if we had heard anything
about the public safety component. LaCrosse said she hasnt heard but will call Dave Grass.
Day Of Historical Significance:
Kuefler, representing the Historical Society, said they
would like to host an annual open house and invite citizens to see what weve got. Many
1
people dont know what we have. He said he talked to Brad Hoffman.
8:05 a.m. Youngberg arrived.
Kuefler added at the open house, members would wear dress of the farm era, there would be
displays of documents and memorabilia, tours and they would sell ice cream. If the farm was
booked where they could not give tours, they do have a video taped tour of Leone Howe
which they could show continuously.
Cohen said if the facility is fully booked, their potential revenue is $7,000. The issue is
helping the City promote the farm. Is the City willing to participate in our effort to bring in more
people? The Sunday before EBD is historically the least booked Sunday. If they booked it,
we could work around it. Cohen would like to get formal approval from the City as to options.
He asked the Historical Society to work up an outline of what they are trying to achieve. The
concern is the facility does not get down to Brooklyn Center and it is a center of community
pride. Ditty suggested they have buggies and sleighs on display. Cohen said the Historical
Society isa natural to take the lead and focus on the area.
10K/2 mi. Walk:
Youngberg said they will use the same area.
New Business:
Ditty suggested having a teen dance. Cohen said it takes a lot of
volunteers and if someone has the financial means and the workers to do it, then go ahead.
Youngberg said we should get two to three teens involved, possibly from St. Als.
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Roen to approve a three year term for these
board members: Tony Ditty, Jackie Graham, George Nerburn, Larry Roen. Motion carried.
The committee talked about businesses in Brooklyn Center having promotions during EBD.
Cohen said it costs money for promotions. He suggested contacting Mary Welch. LaCrosse
said Bergeland, Slupske and Graham were going to make a presentation to the Chamber.
Dorff said he will contact Bergeland.
Dorff passed out a letter he wrote describing another way of getting funds. He is asking for
donations of $10 or more from individuals. Cohen said there has to be something for it. It is
not deductible so they have to get something tangible. Kuefler said it could go in as an insert
in the city newsletter. Cohen said then other groups would want to do this. LaCrosse said
she did not know if something like this would be approved. Kuefler said all contributors would
get their name on a sign board. Cohen will make some comments for changes and fax to
Dorff.

Tuesday, January 21, 7:30 a.m., Conference Room A at City Hall.
ADJOURN:
