HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 04-15 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes April 15, 1997 PRESENT: Cohen, Kuefler, Graham, Roen, Bergeland, Zastrow, Ditty, LaFond, Dorff, Holcomb and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 a.m. by Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Cohen to approve the minutes of March 18, 1997. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported a financial balance of $8,657.24 in checking and $7,500 in a CD as of April 15, 1997 Arts & Crafts Fair: Holcomb reported 21 responses so far. She said it is not unusual for people to wait until the deadline to send in their forms because we cash the checks right away. She received a map from engineering and will walk around the area this week. Car Show: Bergeland said Nerburn asked her to check into the use of the corporate building parking lot across the street from the Heritage Center. She said they would like us to add them as additional insured. LaCrosse said the car show carries their own insurance and lists EBD, the City and the Heritage Center as additional insured. Bergeland will call Nerburn. Ice Cream Social: LaFond reported they would like to have the community band play a little later, possibly during the serving of the ice cream. They would like to get cheerleaders and maybe a choir from the local school. LaCrosse said we need an emcee. LaFond will check with Ron Thomas to see if he is interested. Junior Ambassador: Graham said the applications are going out. She would like to get a copy of the  do not solicit list. Dorff said he updating and will get a copy out as soon as possible.  Kids Fishing Contest: Ditty said both Fleet Farm and Holiday Sports are possible sponsors. Parade: Ditty said he had a request for units with young children to be in the earlier part of the parade. Whenever possible, he will try to accommodate them. LaCrosse said the Lions Club wants a little more information about the parade especially why it is important to award $4,000 in prize money to the bands. Holcomb said the parade is good for the City image. She travels to many antique shows and has noticed many people have a poor perception of Brooklyn Center. Graham said the bands bring many additional spectators to the parade. LaCrosse will add this to the proposal and send to Lions Club. Picnic/Games: Cohen said the Safety Day will be tied in. Dorff said everything will remain the same. Publicity: LaCrosse said the brochure is at the printer. 1 Sunday In Central Park: Everything is set. 10K & 2 Mile: No report. A Day At The Farm: Kuefler said the Historical Society is basically doing what they said they would do. The Highway Patrol will bring a helicopter. Other attractions are the National Guard, a quiz with both historic and current questions, video tapes and thanks to the Lions Club, hayrides. The Historical Society will have a booth. LaCrosse said the EBD booth proposal included one to two junior ambassadors with one to two board members. Graham, Dorff, Ditty, Cohen and LaCrosse will volunteer. Holcomb also is a possibility. Safety Day: LaCrosse said they will use the softball fields. Dave Grass and LaCrosse will meet to determine an alternate site in case the fields are wet. Dorff asked about the possibility of a shuttle bus from the parking lot across the street to Central Park. LaCrosse said she will check into it. Cohen asked LaCrosse to check into advertising/novelty items, such as buttons, to give to persons donating to EBD. This is similar to what Maple Grove is doing. LaCrosse will check into items and  Dorff will check into Maple Groves promotional idea. Payment of bills:  Andersons Crowns, pins - Junior Ambassadors $184.94 City of Brooklyn Center Postage 133.26 City of Brooklyn Center Candidate Orientation Meeting 35.00 Action Radio 1996 parade radio rental 106.50 There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Ditty to pay bills. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Dorff said he received a request from Discover The Center for our mission statement. He drafted one  and asked for everyones opinion. Dorff suggested looking at individual stores at Brookdale for business contacts. Cohen said many are part of a large corporation and are offended when contacted. LaFond will check into it. Dorff asked for a current list of board members. LaCrosse will send out with the minutes. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, May 6, 7:30 a.m., Conference Room A at City Hall.
