Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
March 18, 1997
PRESENT:
Cohen, Kuefler, Nerburn, Graham, Roen, Slupske, Bergeland, Zastrow, Ditty, LaCrosse,
Colleen LaFond representing Brookdale and Ron Blake representing the toy show. The meeting was
called to order at 7:31 a.m. by Cohen.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Roen to approve the
minutes of February 18, 1997. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported a financial balance of $2,478.87 in checking and $7,500
in a CD as of March 18, 1997. LaCrosse reported deposits of $5,000 from the Lions Club for the parade
and $2,000 from North Metro Tourism for publicity. She asked if the CD could be extended. Zastrow
said she will look into it.
Cohen said Dorff will be back in time to chair the next meeting.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
No report.
Car Show:
Nerburn said they have an agreement with Earle Brown Heritage Center
for the use of the building. Ron Blake met with Judith. Blake said they attract approximately 700 -
1,000 people to their shows. They rent the tables to vendors and charge an admission fee. The vendors
sell both old and new toys. The toy show will be inside and the car show outside. The toy show will be a
rider on the car show liability insurance policy. They are also going to try to get sponsors to offset costs.
7:45 a.m. Youngberg arrived.
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Nerburn to authorize Cohen to sign an agreement between
Earle Brown Day, Inc. and EZ4U, Inc. based on the assurances from Ron Blake, George Nerburn and
Tom Slupske that Earle Brown Days will have no worse than a break even operation and will cost the
committee no money. Motion carried.
Ice Cream Social:
LaFond reported the ice cream will be served a little later this year.
Daytons is donating the ice cream. She said the entertainment has not been firmed up but will include the
Brooklyn Community Band because of the tradition. Cohen asked LaCrosse to contact the band.
Insurance:
LaCrosse said traditionally we have insured the following events: Parade,
10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run, Fishing Contest, Arts & Crafts Fair, Picnic/Games and Junior Ambassadors.
She asked if anything needed to be added. There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Zastrow to
cover the same events. Motion carried.

Junior Ambassador:
No report.
Kids Fishing Contest:
Ditty is still working on a sponsor.
Parade:
Ditty said the line up area will include 59th & Emerson. Dave Grass from
the police department will coordinate security and hopes to have two people on bicycles.
Picnic/Games:
No report.
Publicity:
LaCrosse asked if anyone had corrections or additions to the schedule of events.
Bergeland said the time for A Day At The Farm is 1-4:30 p.m. Youngberg wanted to add a 7 a.m.
registration time to the information on the 10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run.
Sunday In Central Park:
Everything is set.
10K & 2 Mile:
Youngberg said they are in the runners book. They have a sponsor for
the shirts and copying costs are covered.
A Day At The Farm:
Kuefler said they will have the State Highway Patrol, the Minnesota National
Guard and tours. The historical society will take the historical aspect of the tours and Judith will talk
about what the facilities are used for currently. They will have artifacts on display and are working with
Judith to develop a quiz. Video tapes will also be shown. The Lions Club has committed $500 to help
pay for the hayrides.
Cohen asked if the committee would be interested in participating by having a booth. LaCrosse
suggested dividing the day up into 45 minute or one hour shifts. There was a motion by Kuefler,
seconded by Ditty to participate. Motion carried. LaCrosse will develop a sign up sheet.
Safety Day:
LaCrosse said Dave Grass is working on it but will not have specific activities firm
until May.
Payment of bills:

There was a motion by Roen, seconded by Graham to pay bills. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Cohen read a memo from Myrna Kragness about a promotional idea she found for the Maple Grove
Community Organization promoting financial support from families. He said this is a similar idea to what
Henry Dorff has been talking about. He said it would involve developing a promotional pamphlet and
getting the word out. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Graham to try this. Motion carried.
LaCrosse suggested appointing Tony Kuefler and Dale Ubelhoer to the board of directors. There was a
motion by Bergeland, seconded by Graham to appoint Tony Kuefler to the board for a term to expire on

12/31/97 and to appoint Dale Ubelhoer to the board for a term to expire on 12/31/98. Motion carried.
Zastrow said there are two outstanding checks from the 1996 parade. One is for second place Class A
for $500 and the other is for junior/middle school for $300. Ditty will check on it.
