HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997 05-06 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 6, 1997 PRESENT: Kuefler, Graham, Bergeland, Zastrow, LaFond, Dorff, Linda Sauer from Sun Post and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:34 a.m. by Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Bergeland to approve the minutes of April 15, 1997. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported a financial balance of $9,039.04 in checking and $7,500 in a CD as of May 6, 1997. Arts & Crafts Fair: No report. Car Show: Dorff read a contract signed by Nerburn on March 19 which states they want a clean, paved area for the car show, permission to charge $8 per car, a deposit of $200 to start advertising for the show with balance of $600 due on day of show. Bergeland said she has received permission to use the Towers parking lot as long as it is left in a clean and orderly manner. Ice Cream Social: LaFond reported Ron Thomas has resigned. She suggested Mayor Kragness as the emcee. The committee thought it was a good idea. LaCrosse said the community band is available and has it marked on their calendar. LaFond said she has made some school contacts to have choirs perform. She is waiting to hear back. Junior Ambassador: Graham said the garage sale was not very successful because the street was torn up. They have nine applicants. Committee members have started to make business contacts.  Kids Fishing Contest: No report. Parade: No report. There was a recommendation by the committee for Dick Risley to be the grand marshal. LaCrosse will make the recommendation to Ditty. Picnic/Games: Dorff said everything will remain the same. Publicity: LaCrosse said the calendar of events went out to all residents. A flyer will be sent out to the schools with the EBD calendar on one side and A Day At The Farm on the other. Linda Sauer said she will be getting the ads for the tabloid. She asked if we wanted a similar cover. LaCrosse said it might be nice to do something different. Dorff asked for a different color. Linda Sauer suggested something historic about the farm. LaCrosse asked if pictures could be included. Articles to be included in the tabloid are A Day At The Farm, Junior Ambassadors, Ice Cream Social, Police Safety Day and the 1 Grand Marshal. LaCrosse will fill in with other event articles. All committee members should submit articles to LaCrosse and she will meet with Linda Sauer. 10K & 2 Mile: Youngberg was unable to attend but sent this report. The 10K Run is on track. Committee members will be starting to get donations. The shirts will be ordered next week and they have two sponsors for the shirts. Arrangements will be made with Myrna for outdoor toilet facilities and for parking in the office building on Shingle Creek Parkway. Some forms have been mailed and they are also available at the community center. LaCrosse will write a letter to Brooklyn Park to let them know we will be on the trail around the lake. She will contact the police department. A Day At The Farm: Kuefler said the historical side is coming along well. They are pulling together quiz questions. They can use the vacant lot as long as the insurance gets squared away. Bergeland said the rooms are targeted, the newsletter is printed and they are preparing an economic impact statement to go on the history. They will be taking a dry run on the tour. Safety Day: LaCrosse said they will use the softball fields for the helicopter and the vehicles. In case of soggy ground, the back up location is along the paved trail going to Garden City Park. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Dorff will contact Roen and Ditty about their business contacts. Brookdale will hang up EBD posters and distribute flyers.
