APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Slupske said he had two changes for the August 19 minutes. He
said he is not advocating for large events. Second correction is if previous minutes have stated that
Slupske or Nerburn said the toy show would cover all expenses of the car show, that is incorrect. It
should read up to $800. There was a motion by Campbell, seconded by Youngberg to approve the
minutes of August 19, 1997 with these two corrections. Motion carried.
Cohen suggested we go through the issues first. Slupske said Dorff, Ubelhoer and he were asked to do a
mission statement and come up with strategies. They did this.

Kuefler handed out a form he recommends be used as a project proposal for new events.
1
Ubelhoer suggested all events fill out the form for self-preservation of the events.
Youngberg said she thought the form was too much to expect a new person to fill out. Kuefler said he
would be willing to sit down and help them work on it.
After discussing mission statements, the committee decided to adopt one mission statement to be used on
publications and another to be used internally by the committee.
Internal Mission Statement:
To annually provide our residents and business entities a means to identify with their community. Give
them an opportunity to learn about their Brooklyn Center Heritage and for them, our family of children,
adults, young and old to attend, participate and celebrate friendship and family fun enjoying the parade,
games, sports, entertainment and a multitude of events concluding with a wonderful fireworks display in
our Central Park.
External Mission Statement:
To provide Brooklyn Center a festival to identify with their community.
There was a motion by Bergeland, seconded by Dorff to adopt the mission statements.
Kuefler asked that everyone come to the next meeting prepared to talk about Issue II, # 2 which is,
What basic evaluation criteria should we use to determine whether an event idea should be included in
the E.B. Days Festival?
