Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
April 21, 1998
PRESENT:
Dorff, Zastrow, Roen, Ditty, Kuefler, Bergeland, Cohen, Youngberg, Holcomb, LaFond
and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:31 a.m. by Dorff.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Zastrow to approve the
minutes of March 17, 1998. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported $1,708.47 in checking; $7,871.71 in a CD; $2,038.41 in
a CD and we received a check from the Lions Club for $5,000 for parade.
Arts & Crafts:
Holcomb said she needs food vendors. She has 14 single booths and one double
booth so far.
Hall Of Fame:
Dorff said he received a call about having a dedication of Earle Brown at the
Heritage Center during Earle Brown Days. Bergeland said she had not heard of this. Kuefler will check
on it.
Ice Cream Social:
LaFond said they may move some of the entertainment outside. They may try for
a picnic type atmosphere.
Kids Fishing Contest:
LaCrosse said Brookpark Dental Center will be sponsoring the fishing
contest again. They would like a formal request.
Parade:
Ditty said there will be three food vendors, all non-profit. LaCrosse will send them the
information from Hennepin County Health Dept.
Picnic/Games:
Dorff said they will do the same type of thing unless he gets suggestions. Since
there was a problem in canceling one of the womens events last year, Cohen suggested not eliminating
any events.
Publicity:
No Report.
Sunday In Central Park:
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Youngberg to contribute $200
toward the fireworks. Motion carried.
10K/2 mi. Walk:
Youngberg said they are ready to go. Milton is trying to get a corporate sponsor.
Old Business:
Dorff said everyone should submit their proposed budgets to the next meeting.

New Business:
Cohen proposed we develop some hype and extra publicity for the Year 2000. He
asked LaCrosse to send a letter to the city manager telling him of the idea. He would like it to be
sanctioned by the city council. It would bring all the civic groups together and they would need some
seed money. Bergeland said it will be the 10th anniversary of the Heritage Center. Kuefler said it may
reliven the community organizations. Cohen said we would open this up to all the people and then lay
down the guidelines. LaFond said Brookdale will be far enough along on some of their remodeling.
Cohen and Kuefler will work on an organizational plan and set up a general outline.
Payment of bills:
City of Brooklyn Center Postage $122.56
There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Youngberg to approve payment of bills. Motion carried.
Dorff suggested to the committee that everyone ride in the parade, not just the chairperson. The
committee is interested.
Dorff suggested duck races. They would go down the creek and there would be a net down at the end.
LaCrosse said she knows of a company that sells weighted ducks. She will look up the price.
Dorff suggested another idea for the future. A B C D E F ?
A Brooklyn Center Discount Event For Goods
This would be a community sale.
Dorff said we need to let the business contacts know we are coming. He is sending out a letter to every
business in Brooklyn Center. He passed out introduction letters and schedules of Earle Brown Days.
NEXT MEETING:Tuesday, May 12, 7:30 a.m., Conference Room D at City Hall. Conference
Room D is located next to the front office at City Hall. (We have never met here before.)
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Holcomb to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:23 a.m.
