HomeMy WebLinkAbout1998 05-12 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 12, 1998 PRESENT: Dorff, Zastrow, Roen, Ditty, Kuefler, Cohen, Youngberg, Holcomb, Youngberg, Milton and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:35 a.m. by Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Holcomb to approve the minutes of April 21, 1998. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported $6,585.91 in checking; $7,946.24 in a CD. Arts & Crafts: Holcomb said she has 22 booths and 4 food vendors. She will check with the mini-donut vendor about selling hotdogs. She said we are six behind where we were last year. She would like to run an ad for crafters. She would like to have some recreation staff leaders at the event. Hall Of Fame: Kuefler said Henry Dorff has been elected to the Hall of Fame. He also said the State Historical Society is working with the City to put up a marker at the farm because of the first commercial airport and highway patrol. Ice Cream Social: No report.  Kids Fishing Contest: No report Parade: Ditty said they will be putting the line up together very soon. LaCrosse asked if the committee was still planning to ride in the parade and if so, what would they be using as a vehicle. They asked her to check on the possibility of using a city vehicle. Picnic/Games: Dorff said they will do the same thing. Publicity: LaCrosse proposed the following: Kentco Signs - $198; Star Tribune Summer Guide - $500; Broadway Rental sign - $93.72; Osseo/Maple Grove Press - $321.30; Star Tribune Festival & Events column - $139.80; Star Tribune Variety section - $852.91 plus $852.91 for arts & crafts fair. Total budget would be: $2,958.64. Holcomb asked what was spent last year. LaCrosse said $3,094.62. Holcomb said she would like to add a classified ad for crafters and another classified ad to promote the event. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Holcomb to approve the publicity budget. Motion carried. Sunday In Central Park: LaCrosse said it is all set. 10K/2 mi. Walk: Youngberg said they will be getting out for donations. Year 2000: Cohen said he received a call from the City Manager. There is a possibility of combining 1 with the opening of the police department and the 10th anniversary of the Heritage Center. Cohen would like to prepare a plan of action and would like to get an information sheet of what we are going to try to do. He would like the material available to hand out. Cohen said he would like the City Council to declare it an official event of the City and ask Earle Brown Days to coordinate it. He has also talked to Kent Campbell and John Connelly. Old Business: Dorff said we had talked about having a floating duck contest. LaCrosse asked if we could wait until next year so there would be more time to do it right. Dorff said he will talk to Kent Campbell about the ABCDEFG proposal in which businesses in the community would participate by having sales during Earle Brown Days. New Business: Cohen proposed we develop a logo for the Year 2000. A few ideas were suggested such as 2000 BC, Discover 2000 BC, and Discover 2000 in BC. NEXT MEETING:Tuesday, May 26, 7:30 a.m., Conference Room B at City Hall, next to engineering. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Zastrow to adjourn the meeting.
