and $2,112.34 in another CD for a total of $19,949.61. LaCrosse said this amount includes the 1999
donation of $5,000 from the Lions Club.
Arts & Crafts Fair
- No report
Battle of the Bands
- No report
Ice Cream Social
- Thompson said the community band will perform first with Coda following at 7 p.m.
Daytons and Sebastian Joes will sponsor. She said they may have an antique show too.
Kid's Fishing Contest
- LaCrosse said thinks BrookPark Dental will sponsor again.
Parade
- Ditty we need some filler so they are trying to recruit some Lions units. These units usually charge
but they are hoping to get some for free. He is still waiting on the judging for the floats. It will be an open
competition this year and if it works out, there would be categories next year. LaCrosse will draft a letter to
Myrna for the band awards ceremony. Miss Minnesota will be the grand marshal and she has a vehicle. Dorff
asked if the EBD board wanted to ride in the parade again. LaCrosse said she would get a price and report
back at the next meeting. At that time, we could see who is interested. There are lots of possibilities for a
grand marshal next year.
Picnic/Games
- Dorff said there will not be any changes. The program will follow the same format as last
year.
Publicity
- Kuefler contacted Dave Lee of WCCO Radio. He said it did not go the way we wanted it to.
However, he will publicize on the morning show and throughout the day. He said we need to send our events
to Amy Kehr and they will promote them. Dave Lee did not exclude next year.
LaCrosse said she had an idea to get more publicity out the business community, particularly office buildings.
She said there are many people who do not live in Brooklyn Center, but they work in Brooklyn Center.
They are not getting information. LaCrosse said the EBD committee already has too much to do. She would
like to send out two summer playground leaders to canvas the business community with flyers and posters.
She has talked to Pat Holcomb about this, and Pat would like to cover the cost of approximately $112 in the
arts & crafts budget and we would cover the cost of another $112 in the publicity budget. This would allow
for two leaders to go out for a total of 16 hours each. There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by
Youngberg to hire the leaders to distribute flyers and posters. Motion carried.
LaCrosse said City Watch will be distributed beginning May 1. LaCrosse brought flyers and posters to the
meeting and asked everyone to start distributing them.

Pro Wrestling
- Kuefler introduced Rich Martin a Brooklyn Center resident and a wrestling promoter. Rich
said they have put shows on in Crystal and Maple Grove High School. They wrestle all over the country. He
said there are two ways you can run it. One is to sell advertisements from businesses to pay for the wrestlers
and have a free show. Or, you can get advertisements and take money at the gate. Crystal netted $2,000.
Maple Grove Athletic Department netted $22,000. Crystal is doing it during the Frolics and it will be a free
show. The cost is $2,500 minimum with two wrestlers with a name. You get five matches and it lasts around
2 - 2 hours. The usual charge is $10-15 ringside with the first 5-6 rows considered ringside. Back further,
the general admission charges are usually $8-10. They provide the ring and advertisements on Cable 12 and
their wrestling show. The wrestlers carry their own insurance, but EBD would have to provide spectator
insurance. If you have an outside show, it can be rescheduled in case of inclement weather. If you want
more name wrestlers, the cost for a show can run up to $10,000. Ditty suggested the high school. If we
decided to do an outdoor show, LaCrosse suggested the softball fields in Central Park. When asked what
would be good times for a show, Rich said right after another event, such as a parade. LaCrosse asked about
Sunday afternoons. He said Sunday afternoons are really pretty good.
Cohen made a motion, seconded by Ditty to approve the project in concept and Kuefler to develop a
feasibility plan and we front the $2,500 seed money. Motion carried.
Sunday In Central Park
- LaCrosse said the fireworks are scheduled and Reuben Ristrom will again provide
entertainment.
10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run
- Youngberg said she has resigned as a member of Discover The Center. She said
her and another person will keep it together this year and hopefully someone will take over next year.
HealthPartners will sponsor.
Year 2000 Celebration
- Cohen passed around a letter he drafted to the organizations, an agenda for the
May 4 meeting and a millennium community program. His hope is that the May 4 meeting will generate
interest to build the hype for the celebration. Hopefully we will get a chair and sub committee chairs. Cohen
said he will work up a budget with publicity, postage, etc. He said the really cut time is September.
Cohen asked the status of the logo contest. LaCrosse said the flyers went out last Wednesday to all the
schools. Flyers also went to the library and the Family Resource Center. Information will be in the City
Watch going out shortly, was sent to the Sun Post, and is on cable.
Insurance
- LaCrosse asked if she should get additional insurance for the Battle of the Bands. The
committee said yes. Ditty suggested she get a quote for adding the wrestling event.
OLD BUSINESS:
LaCrosse said we should act on the two outstanding checks from last year. There was
a motion by Cohen, seconded by Youngberg to cancel the checks and not to reissue them. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
LaCrosse said she received a call from a company that wants to give pony rides. It
was suggested she get the information for next year.
LaCrosse said that two after school programs featured a class on yo-yo instruction taught by Kay Lasmans
son. She asked if that might be something we would want to offer on Sunday during the arts & crafts fair.
LaCrosse said we will not be doing the moon walk this year and she wondered if we could buy a bunch of yo-
yos and pay him a stipend. The committee said yes.
