HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999 02-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes February 16, 1999 PRESENT: Cohen, Kuefler, Cary, Zastrow, Milton, Roen, Sally Thompson, and LaCrosse. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Zastrow to approve the minutes of January 19, 1999. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported a balance of $4,249.93 in checking and $8,60.67 in one CD and $2,112.34 in another CD for a total of $14,522.94. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by  Cary to accept the treasurers report. Motion carried. Everyone introduced themselves to Sally Thompson, the new representative from Brookdale. Arts & Crafts Fair - No Report. Ice Cream Social - Thompson said Brookdale will continue. The manager, Sharon Paulson, would like to tie in some other things too. Hopefully Daytons will continue sponsoring the ice cream. Kid's Fishing Contest - LaCrosse said the financial letters for donations have not gone out yet, but she is hopeful Brook Park Dental will again sponsor. Parade - LaCrosse said the letters have gone out. There have been about six applications sent back. She passed around a newspaper article that Henry Dorff sent. It showed the parade line-up with the parade route printed in the local newspaper. LaCrosse said this is a good idea if we can get the line-up done by tabloid time. Everyone else thought it was a good idea. She said Tony Ditty has the grand marshal lined up. It is his niece who is Miss Minnesota this year and she lives in Brooklyn Center. Picnic/Games - Cohen explained the concept of picnic and games. It will continue. Publicity - LaCrosse said we need to have the events finalized at the March 16 meeting. This is the deadline for City Watch. She asked if we wanted to have out festival logo printed in the Minnesota Monthly magazine for $50. Our festival is already listed because we are a member of the Festival Association. It was a consensus of the committee that our logo is not well known enough. It was decided we would not submit our logo for publication. Sunday In Central Park - LaCrosse said Reuben Ristrom is contracted for the entertainment and we will go with the same fireworks company. 10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run - Milton said HealthPartners will sponsor. They are looking for ways to make it better. Year 2000 Celebration - Cohen said the next step is to send letters to organizations and ask them to 1 designate a representative to the steering committee by making an official appointment. Cohen would  like to have presence at the 1999 celebration parade and Sunday In Central Park. He said weve got to create the hype. Milton said she has an idea to get the schools involved by entering floats in the parade. Cohen asked her to write up a proposal for the next meeting. Kuefler said he thinks there is grant money for start up programs. Cohen will check with the Department of Tourism and LaCrosse will call John Connolly. LaCrosse said we should look at getting our Year 2000 logo made and out. Cohen asked if a logo contest would work. The committee decided to try it. The rules include: 1. Resident of Brooklyn Center or attend a school in Brooklyn Center. 2. Categories: Senior High - Grades 10-12 Junior High - Grades 7-9 Elementary - Grades K-6 3. Prize money: $100 - Grand prize 50 - 1st place in the other two categories There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Zastrow to approve $200 for the logo contest. Motion carried. PAYMENT OF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center $78.42 Postage There was a motion by Milton, seconded by Zastrow to pay the bill. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Milton asked why the Battle of the Bands was not on the agenda. LaCrosse said she will include it from now on. They are looking at Saturday night in Central Park. At  this time, Milton doesnt know if there will be an admission charge or if they will be selling concessions. LaCrosse reported the cost of a 5" x 7" plaque is $6.75. The cost of a 6" x 8" plaque is $7.25. She was asked to get prices at a previous meeting. These would be given out to businesses that contributed a certain amount of money. Cohen said he thinks businesses have too many plaques. He would like to see a colorful certificate. LaCrosse said the recreation department does not have a color printer. Cary said she has print shop and a Hallmark software. She will bring a sample to the next meeting. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16, 7:30 a.m. in conference room B at City Hall. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Milton to adjourn the meeting.
