HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999 01-19 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes January 19, 1999 PRESENT: Cohen, Zastrow, Holcomb, Carey, Cory, Youngberg, Roen and LaCrosse. The meeting was called to order at 7:45 a.m. by Cohen. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Zastrow, seconded by Holcomb to approve the minutes of November 17, 1998. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported $4,489.93 in checking, $8,088.30 in one CD and $2,075.51 in the other CD for a total of $14,653.74. Cohen explained why we have built up a cash  reserve. There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Zastrow to accept the treasurers report. Motion carried. The committee introduced themselves to Mary Carey and Brent Cory. Mary said she moved to Brooklyn Center three years ago. She has two children and works for Norwest Mortgage. She has served on several committees. Brent works for the Brooklyn Community Chamber. Marketing & Publicity: Holcomb said she recommends the checks for the Arts & Crafts Fair not be cashed immediately. She said it is common practice at shows to hold checks until right before or after the show. The problem is who wants to be responsible for holding them. Zastrow suggested a safety deposit box at the bank. She thought it would run about $10 for the year. There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Youngberg to get a safety deposit box. Holcomb said returning exhibitors would be guaranteed their same spot. Promotional materials, such as flyers would be sent out to them upon receiving their application.  Holcomb said the business community doesnt have a clue and we need the business community to put  up Earle Brown Days posters. She said we need banners and coupons. Cohen said we dont have a downtown. Holcomb said we need to go to meetings, such as the Chamber, Lions, Rotary, etc. She said maybe we should host a luncheon. Cory said one problem with the business community is the big turnover of managers. We also need to get information out to day cares. Cory said the business community wants to know what is in it for them. Cohen said certificates could be framed. Cohen summarized marketing priorities with the following:  1. Speakers Bureau. 2. Day Cares. 3. Flyer more exciting.  4. Whats In It For Me - something to support Earle Brown Days - incentives such as plaques, decals, certificates, stickers. 5. Churches. 1 Year 2000: Cohen passed out a draft report to go to the City Council to see if they still approve of the concept. There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Holcomb to appoint Mary Cary as a board member. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, February 16, 1999 at 7:30 a.m. in conference room B at City Hall.
