HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999 06-15 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 15, 1999 PRESENT: Dorff, Milton, Nelson, Cohen, Roen, Kuefler, Youngberg, Thompson, Zastrow, Ditty, Holcomb and LaCrosse. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Milton to approve the minutes of June 8, 1999. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported $13,741.88 in checking, $8,232.11 in one CD and $2,112.34 in the other CD. After subtracting $5,000 for parade, $1,500 for insurance, $2,900 for publicity, $2,500 for wrestling, there is $3,574.38 left in checking. Arts & Crafts Fair - Holcomb said she has 39 booths. She would like more but it is going to look fine. She could get about 10 more. She asked if she could have an approval for coffee and mini donuts for the crafters and beverages for volunteers. There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Nelson to approve the coffee, mini donuts and beverages not to exceed $100. Motion carried. Battle of the Bands - Milton reported the waivers are supposed to be in by tomorrow. They are still having a few problems with the sound equipment. There will be no admission fee. The youth have yet to decide what to do with prizes. They have collected some CD certificates, pizza certificates and the guitar to give as door prizes. Holcomb suggested the smallest prizes be given out first and a rule that only one prize per person. Dorff suggested they stamp their hands. Ice Cream Social - Thompson said the community band and CODA are scheduled. She said Phil could have a Year 2000 table. They have added an antique tractor display. Kid's Fishing Contest - LaCrosse said everything is set. Dorff said the contest feeds into the games and contests. He suggested adding a tennis clinic next year but was concerned about the schedule. Holcomb said we need activities for seniors and teens, especially for ages 9-14. LaCrosse said the tennis clinic could be held on the Friday of EBD rather than on Saturday. Parade - Ditty said the parade is all set. He has politely been turning units away. He has told them to get their entries in earlier next year. He picked out three plaques for the float competition for $10 each. He has ordered the trophies and the t-shirts. Picnic/Games - Dorff said he has talked to Sue about getting all the equipment and supplies for the games. He will bring over the prizes and certificates next week so the committee chairs can choose some for their events. Ten Rotarians have volunteered to work. Publicity - LaCrosse said the recreation employees have gone out to the office buildings and the hotels. They have met with mixed reactions. Some said no; others were very receptive. The Star Tribune ads start Friday and the tabloid will be out Wednesday. Public service announcements were sent out to the radio stations. She sent out news releases on the parade because of Miss Minnesota and another on the wrestling event because it is unique. LaCrosse said she has been on cable tv and many people have told her they have seen it. LaCrosse said a resident called who had home movie footage of the 1961 parade which was the 50th anniversary of Brooklyn Center. The movie is now at Ritz Camera and is being transferred to video cassette. Holcomb would like to see it played at Brookdale. LaCrosse said she sees it working well with the Year 1 2000 Celebration. One copy will be donated to the Historical Society. Sunday In Central Park - No report. 10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run - Youngberg said it all depends on registration now. Year 2000 Celebration - Cohen said Tony gave a report last week and that is where we are at. Insurance - LaCrosse said she the insurance has been ordered. An invoice will be sent. We are covered for insurance. Pro Wrestling - Kuefler said he will make some parking signs. PAYMENT OF BILLS:  City of Brooklyn Center $56.10 Crafters Wanted ad Richard Martin (Cash) 2,500.00 Wrestling Event There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Youngberg to pay the bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 22, 7:30 a.m. in conference room A. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Ditty to adjourn the meeting.
