and LaCrosse.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Zastrow to approve the
minutes of February 16, 1999. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported a balance of $4,755.06 in checking and $8,160.67 in one CD
and $2,112.34 in another CD for a total of $15,028.07. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Ditty to
accept the treasurers report. Motion carried.
Ice Cream Social
- Thompson said Sebastian Joes and Daytons will sponsor. They were wondering if their
name could go on the publicity as the sponsors. LaCrosse said yes. Thompson will confirm spelling of
Sebastian Joes and call Sue with the entertainment schedule.
Kid's Fishing Contest
- LaCrosse said she is assuming that BrookPark Dental will sponsor the contest again
but until the donation letters go out, we will not know for sure.
Parade
- Ditty said the grand marshal will be Miss Minnesota. She is also his niece. Budget Power will
donate a car for her to ride in. He said we will use the same route as last year. However, when the floats
cross 69th, they will turn into Lutheran Church of the Master. Cohen asked if there was going to be a float
competition. Ditty said he is waiting to hear back from the judges association but thinks it would cost about
$500 for judging, trophies and prizes. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Zastrow to approve the
Earle Brown Days committee to spend the extra money for a float competition in the event the money cannot
be raised. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair
- Holcomb said she has three applications in already and she has received many phone
calls. More help is needed. Cohen asked her to put together a sheet with shifts. Holcomb asked about
setting up the safety deposit box to hold arts & crafts checks. Zastrow said she would like a second signature
in case she is not available. LaCrosse said she would be willing to be the second person.
Picnic/Games
- Rotary will continue to sponsor.
Publicity
- LaCrosse said the next City Watch/Recreation Brochure will go to the printer before the next
meeting. She wanted to finalize the schedule.
Kuefler said he met with Arnie Mavis to discuss the possibility of a radio personality and Dave Lee from
WCCO was suggested. Dave Lee is already working with the Dudley and is a friend of tournament director,
Warren Bellm. Warren has contacted Dave and he is interested in doing something with EBD. Maybe he will
build it into his show. The question is do we want to explore for this year or wait until the Year 2000? The
committee thought it was a good idea for Kuefler to pursue.
Sunday In Central Park
- LaCrosse said last year Arnie Mavis donated $100 toward the fireworks and
asked the EBD committee to donate $200. This year, he is willing to donate $200 and would like EBD to
donate $400. There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Roen to approve $400 for additional fireworks.
Motion carried.
1
10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run
- No report.
Year 2000 Celebration
- Cohen passed out a flyer about the Year 2000 Logo contest. The committee
decided to change the categories from grades to ages. They are as follows: Up to age 11, ages 12-14 and 15-
18. LaCrosse said the recreation department is donating a three month pool membership for grand prize and
2 one month memberships for first place in the other two categories. LaCrosse will compile the two drafts
into a final copy. She said a resident called her to say she is a graphic designer and would like to lend her
help to creating a logo. LaCrosse told her we were having a logo contest, but that maybe we could use her
services to put it into a final form. Cohen asked what she charges. LaCrosse said she didnt ask.
Cohen reported that Steve Ellingson called him to suggest an all Brooklyn Center High School reunion. He
will pursue the idea.
Cohen said he wants to send letters out to every organization asking them to appoint someone to the Year
2000 committee.
Kuefler said another idea that came up with his meeting with Arnie was a pro wrestling event. Arnie gave
him the name of a promoter in Brooklyn Center. Kuefler said you pay the promoter $2,500 and you get five
matches. They provide the ring and promote in a wrestling magazine. Our cost would be the $2,500, site,
security, insurance and concessions. Most have charged $8-10 per person for admission. It would also be
promoted on cable TV. Kuefler will invite the promoter to the next board meeting.
LaCrosse said she talked to Len Bolander of Americana Fireworks about doing fireworks sometime during
the Year 2000 Celebration. He is only booking current customers for New Years Eve. Cohen said he wants
the fireworks on New Year Eve. LaCrosse said she will find out if that is feasible because all police officers
and the fire department are working.
OLD BUSINESS:
Zastrow said there are two outstanding checks. One is for $750 for AA 1st place at
last years parade. The other check is dated November 4, 1998 for $67.50 for Jackie Graham. Cohen
