HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999 05-25 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 25, 1999 PRESENT: Dorff, Kuefler, Roen, Zastrow, Nelson, Ditty, Cohen, Heather Hanson (student intern), and LaCrosse APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Zastrow to approve the minutes of May 11, 1999. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported $8,232.11 in one CD, $2,112.34 in another CD and $10,346.21 in checking for a total of $21,790.66. Cohen said $2,500 is earmarked for wrestling, $1,000 for Year 2000. LaCrosse said the amount in checking includes the donation from Lions Club and about $6,000 will be needed for the parade. Zastrow said the shortest term CD is seven months. The committee decided  not to invest any more from checking into CDs. Arts & Crafts Fair - No report Battle of the Bands - No report Ice Cream Social - No report. Kid's Fishing Contest - LaCrosse said BrookPark Dental will sponsor again and they are very excited. She said they will donate $175 toward prizes this year. Dorff said he received 100 tokens for ice cream cones from Bridgemans. These could be given out as the children check in. LaCrosse said they love them. Parade - Ditty said he has an extra convertible this year. He suggested putting it right before the Year 2000 float with an additional sign. He said there are 102 units. He will use the parking lot at Lutheran Church of the Master for floats to dismantle. From the City, he would like two golf carts, the showmobile, a set of bleachers on the west side of 62nd Ave, and a platform on the east side of 62nd for the judges. There are 12 bands. Picnic/Games - Dorff said everything is looking great. He will attend a Rotary meeting to sign up volunteers. Publicity - LaCrosse passed out a budget proposal. She said this just includes the paid promotion. There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Cohen to accept the publicity proposal at a cost of $3,165.66. Motion carried. We have a verbal commitment from North Metro Tourism for $2,000 for publicity. Ditty suggested  when sending out parade notices to newspapers, we add a thanks to the community. For example, Thank  you Fridley 49ers for participating in the Earle Brown Days parade. Cohen suggested we build up the parade more. For example, promote we are one of the top three parades in the State or it is the top suburban parade in the State. LaCrosse said she will add to paid ads. Sunday In Central Park - LaCrosse said she will receive a check from Arnie Mavis for $200 made out to Earle Brown Days for the fireworks. She is requesting a check for $600 made out to the city. The board had previously approved $400 toward the fireworks. 10K & 2 Mile Walk/Run - Cohen reported for Youngberg that HealthPartners will provide the shirts and money. 1 Year 2000 Celebration - Cohen said the meeting in May was very good. The kick off will be February 11. There will be hype by putting signs in the parade and the handout piece. This is all we need to do during Earle Brown Days. He said they met with the City Manager and he wants a plan of action of what we want the City to do. Cohen plans on making another report to the City Council. They are very supportive. There will need to be a schedule at the end of July and a big push after Earle Brown Days. LaCrosse said the response to the logo contest has been poor. Cohen asked if we should use the millennium bug. LaCrosse said probably. Insurance - LaCrosse said she has not received a quote yet. Pro Wrestling - Kuefler said they will have a unit in the parade and will distribute our flyers at other events at the merchandise table. At our event, we can do announcements at the beginning and during breaks. We still need parking assistance. Dorff said he would like to see Kiwanis involved. What kind of signs should we get. LaCrosse will check with police department concerning portable stop signs. OLD BUSINESS : Dorff has started his business contacts and it has been going well. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 7:30 a.m. in conference room A at City Hall.
