The meeting was called to order at 7:33 a.m. by Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Roen to approve the minutes of October 19, 1999. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : Zastrow reported a balance of 4,939.65 in checking, $8,379.28 in one CD and $2,147.64 in the other CD. This gives us a balance $15,466.57. Zastrow said there is an outstanding check from Dec. 17, 1999 for $35 to the Minnesota Festival and Arts Association. LaCrosse said it is the membership dues for 1999. She will call them. Tennis Event: Dorff introduced Ab Johnston and Roger Boyer of Inner City Tennis. The program involves seniors working with children. They currently run two programs in Minneapolis and are involved at an after school program at Fair Oaks Elementary. It is intergenerational and multicultural. They work hard to sustain contact with kids and focus in starting with younger kids. One of the Minneapolis programs includes putting about 60 senior tennis players and kids together in fun events. The second program is more competitive and involves older kids. The Mayor of Minneapolis has already scheduled the program for next year.  Ab Johnston proposed an all day event for ages 4 to 17 during EBD that could be held at BCHS or Central Park. They provide everything. Roger Boyer said he would recommend having a sign up for the first part of the program. The EBD committee overwhelming support the idea of a tennis event for Saturday, June 24. Arts & Crafts Fair: Holcomb said at the beginning of the month she had resigned. She cannot give up the whole month of June anymore. Holcomb and Kuefler will co-chair. Kuefler handed out a proposal. 1. Assign Arts & Crafts Co-chairs for 2000 EBD Festival (ie; Holcomb & Kuefler). 2. Change Arts & Crafts from a 2-Day Show (Saturday & Sunday) to a 1-Day Show (Saturday only, with extended hours). Hours would be 9 a.m. to dark. 3. Add hourly drawing for a $10 Gift Certificate, redeemable with a purchase at any one of the Arts & Crafts Booths. This would amount to $100 or less. This would encourage people to buy more.  4. Add additional activities to Saturdays schedule to enhance the crowds (free entertainment, free spectator sport event(s), etc.). Holcomb said the tennis is ideal. Another idea is to have a series of ball games going on including Little League, Babe Ruth and Little League alumni. She said her cousin would be interested in organizing an alumni game and in coming up with names. 5. Consider changing the Free Entertainment & Fireworks from Sunday to Saturday night. LaCrosse  said she tried to get the Rockin Hollywoods and an Elvis impersonator for Saturday night and neither is available. She said you could have a bad group before the fireworks and you would still have a good crowd. We might want to add entertainment to the afternoon. There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Zastrow to approve the proposal. Motion carried. 1 Holcomb said she would like to recommend moving the EBD meetings to local restaurants. Then when the volunteers go around to collect donations, they would be more receptive. LaCrosse said the only objection she has is that she has attended meetings when she and one other person are the only ones who show up. She would be embarrassed to reserve an area and not have anyone show. Holcomb then suggested holding the meetings in May and June at restaurants. Discussion of this idea will be on the March agenda. Picnic/Games: Dorff said the event will be changed to Family Fun & Games. Publicity: LaCrosse said the publicity sub-committee determined we need more community and business support. Kuefler said he met with Brad and got a list of businesses opening in the last two years. Someone will go talk to the Cub manager. Sunday In Central Park: LaCrosse said we will have to wait until the city council has approved the change. 10K/2 Mile Run/Walk: Youngberg said there is nothing new. Year 2000: Cohen said they have a meeting on December 7. LaCrosse asked Cohen if any of the January events have been finalized. He said he has been really busy and he thinks they can still do them. He is also thinking of changing the schedule for the dinner. LaCrosse said the brochure goes to the printer at the end of the month. PAYMENT OF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center $7.85 Postage - October There was a motion by Kuefler, seconded by Youngberg to pay this bill. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, January 18, 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room A. ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 a.m. Respectfully Submitted, Sue LaCrosse, City Liaison 2
