HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000 04-18 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes April 18, 2000 PRESENT: Dorff, Ditty, Nelson, Roen, Youngberg, Cohen, and LaCrosse. Meeting was called to order at 7:45 a.m. by Henry Dorff. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Youngberg to approve the minutes of March 21, 2000. Motion carried. FINANCIAL REPORT : There is $2,083.90 in checking, $8,454.26 in one CD and $2,184.13 in another CD. Total is $12,722.29. Arts & Crafts Fair: No report. Family Fun & Games: Nelson suggested contacting the physical education teachers at the elementary schools for ideas for kids favorite games. They could ask their students. Dorff will draft a letter. Youngberg talked to someone from the Hmong community at the prayer breakfast. She will contact him for ideas. Ice Cream Social: LaCrosse said Cohen has talked to Sharon Paulson at Brookdale. They have some great ideas for the event. A copy of ideas is included with the minutes.  Kids Fishing Contest: BrookPark Dental indicated they wanted to come back as a sponsor. LaCrosse will contact them. She asked if anyone had any suggestions for the event. Music/Fireworks: LaCrosse said she has hired a group called Sandy & the Hitmen. They are a variety group playing music from the 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's. They come highly recommended from the Crystal Recreation Department. We have received the fireworks contract. It is for $8,600. The city contributes $8,000, Arnie $200 and EBD $400. Parade: Ditty reported he was a little concerned at the lack of bands coming in. They are starting to come in now. There are seven bands including Park Center and Brooklyn Center. LaCrosse said we have received many float applications. There may still be a possibility of having Chuck Knapp as our grand marshal. Nelson will check. If that falls through, it was suggested we ask Phil Carruthers. Publicity: LaCrosse made a report regarding publicity. She handed out a proposal that included advertising on WLTE Radio, Media One Cable Television, Star Tribune ads, plus signs, banners, flyers, and posters. The committee went through the television stations and deleted ads on FX, TLC, VH1, E, and the Cartoon Network. The committee asked about adding A&E. LaCrosse will come up with suggestions for putting the banners up. The committee will be able to approve those sites at the next meeting. There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Ditty to approve the publicity proposal. Motion carried. Teen Event: Cohen reported that Sharon Paulson of Brookdale is considering a discount sales event for 1 teens. Tennis Event: LaCrosse said the schedule is set. Year 2000: Cohen thanked EBD for loaning money to Year 2000. He said he met with Henningson and his suggestion was to keep it a formal action. There should be a motion to make the loan. There should be a motion for the Year 2000 to accept the loan and another motion by EBD to accept the loan back. Cohen requested permission for the Year 2000 to promote events and sell memorabilia during EBD events. He said he will talk to Tony Kuefler about a parade entry. There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Ditty to approve the loan procedure. Motion carried. Cohen asked if a millennium applique could go on the banner. LaCrosse will check with Kentco. Cohen asked if the Sun Post would consider putting the logo on the paper. There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Roen to give permission for the Year 2000 committee to promote and sell souvenir items at EBD. Motion carried.  Yo-Yoing: No report. PAYMENT OF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center 111.87 Postage There was a motion by Ditty, seconded by Youngberg to pay bill. Motion carried. NEW BUSINESS: Cohen asked for copies of the solicitation letters. Ditty asked for the vendor application form for parade. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, May 16, 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room A.
