Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
July 25, 2000
PRESENT:
Dorff, Roen, Zastrow, Holcomb, Nelson, Cohen, Youngberg, and
LaCrosse
Meeting was called to order at 7:37 a.m. by Henry Dorff.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Zastrow, seconded by Roen to approve the
minutes of June 20, 2000. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported $5,714.24 in checking, $8,612.87 in one CD and $2,184.13
in another CD. Total is $16,511.24. She said she will renew the $8,612.87 CD.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
No report. LaCrosse said based on information filled out on door prize drawing slips,
most people either heard about the arts & crafts fair from the Sun Post or City Watch.
Family Fun & Games:
Dorff said there were 1999 total in attendance. Last year there were 219. He
said there was a good turnout from Rotary. He said he would like to look at the events for next year. Cohen
said the water balloon toss stretches it out. LaCrosse said the participants really like the water balloon toss.
She suggested starting the adults farther apart. Dorff said he would like to implement some rules such as if it
hits the ground, you are out. Catching the balloon in your shirt would not be allowed.
Ice Cream Social:
A letter from Brookdale indicated they had 228 sign up for door prizes. Cohen
said it might be beneficial to have local talent because it brings in more people.
Kids Fishing Contest:
LaCrosse reported that we had about the same number of participants. She
said there was a complaint about a father fishing for his children. The problem is that his children won in
every category. We usually get this complaint about every three years. It would be difficult to enforce
because we really dont go around and police people. They are supposed to be on their honor.
Music/Fireworks:
LaCrosse reported about the same amount of people as in previous years. Cohen said
the fireworks were spectacular. LaCrosse said she has talked to the Rockin Hollywoods and they are
available on Saturday, June 23, 2001 and would play from 6-10 p.m. The total cost would be $3,000. The
city has budged $1,500 for them to play on a Tuesday night. She asked the board if they would be willing to
pay the additional $1,500 for them to play on Saturday night. This would also fill the gap of time between 6-
8 p.m. Cohen said he would like music played during the fireworks. He would also like to have someone
sing the National Anthem, preferably a local person. There was a motion by Cohen, seconded by Zastrow to
approve $1,500 for the Rockin Hollywoods for next year. Motion carried.
Parade:
No report. Dorff said thanks to Tony for the nice weather. And thanks to Phil for doing the
commentary.
Publicity:
LaCrosse said we seemed to have a better turnout this year. However, it is difficult to say if it
was due to publicity or the nice weather.
Tennis Event:
No report.

Year 2000:
Cohen said the interest in patriotism fell flat on its face. However, it is worth trying again.
The Rotary was going to try and sell lights but by the time they got prices, it was too late to order. Rotary
will take a look at again.
Yo-Yoing:
Dorff said he thought it went well.
OLD BUSINESS:
Dorff said next years dates are June 21-23.
NEW BUSINESS:
LaCrosse said she is on the Brooklyn Center Family Services Collaborative and
through this group, there are going to be three mini grants awarded for up to $5,000. She is working with

the committee informed.
