Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
March 21, 2000
PRESENT:
Holcomb, Nelson, Roen, Zastrow, Youngberg, Cohen, and
LaCrosse.
Meeting was called to order at 8:04 a.m. by Phil Cohen.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Zastrow to approve the
minutes of February 15, 2000. Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT
: Zastrow reported $2,533.31 in checking, $8,454.26 in one CD and $2,184.13
in the other CD for a total of $13,171.70. Year 2000 has paid back the Earle Brown Days account for the
caterer and the band. There was a motion by Youngberg, seconded by Holcomb to accept the treasurers
report. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Holcomb said there is not much new. She is starting to receive applications. She is
looking for a donut man. She would like to look at auxiliary lighting. LaCrosse said we should get together
with Rick from the maintenance department. Holcomb would like to block off about eight parking spots for
vendors to load and unload. LaCrosse said that should not be a problem.
Family Fun & Games:
No Report from Dorff. Nelson said what about some game ideas to attract
families from the Asian community. LaCrosse said she will put it on the agenda for the next meeting.
Ice Cream Social:
No Report. Cohen will contact Sharon Paulson at Brookdale to make sure
they are still planning to hold the event.
Kids Fishing Contest:
No Report.
Music/Fireworks:
LaCrosse said the Percolators canceled because they had a better offer. She has
contacted Bill Ewald and he is checking to see if TC Cats is available. The Saturday night entertainment has
been a problem. Cohen suggested Brough.
Parade:
Nelson suggested Chuck Knapp of Knapp & Donuts as the grand marshal. He will be the
speaker for the 2001 Prayer Breakfast. LaCrosse will ask Tony Ditty. If they are interested, Nelson will call
Knapp. LaCrosse said there have been no band applications sent back yet.
Publicity:
LaCrosse reported that in the last issue of the Minnesota Festivals & Events Association
newsletter there was an article talking about promotion. The article said newspapers are an inefficient use of
dollars. She handed out a sheet of publicity ideas. She said we spent about $3,000 on newspaper ads last
year. She got prices from WLOL and WLTE radio stations. LaCrosse asked what age group are we trying
to attract. It was decided we would continue the classified ad in the Star Tribune, try to expand the Sun Post
tabloid into Crystal, New Hope, Robbinsdale, and Osseo, check out the possibility of putting information in
utility bills, get extra tabloids for committee to distribute, handouts to those who homestead, Hmong
newspaper, get more information about the Cable ads, and check out the WLTE web site. LaCrosse will
come up with some ideas for the next meeting.

Teen Event:
No Report.
Tennis Event:
LaCrosse said she talked to Roger of the Tennis program and he will get her
the information no later than Monday.
10K/2 Mile Run/Walk:
Youngberg said she has not heard anything from HealthPartners. She said it
will not be held this year.
Year 2000:
Cohen reported they are working on the 4th of July lighting contest. He found Holiday
Lights, a wholesaler. He said Baylon from Rotary is going down to take a look at what they have. The
Rotary should be moving on it.

There was a motion by Holcomb, seconded by Youngberg to pay bills. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
