Meeting Minutes
July 31, 2001
PRESENT:
Phil Cohen, Councilmember Ed Nelson, Henry Dorff, Cathy Ballot, Ab
Johnston, and Sue LaCrosse.
Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:33 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Phil Cohen seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of June 19, 2001.
Motion carried.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Cathy Ballot reported a balance of $7,877.06 in checking plus the CD’s. She
said there are $1,800 in outstanding checks for two bands and floats. The two CD’s equal $11,469.14.
There will be an additional $800 in deposits added. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by
Councilmember Nelson to accept the treasurer’s report.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
No report.
Budget/Finance:
Phil Cohen said he would check with a couple of businesses who have not
contributed yet. He said we just need enough money to stay solvent. Henry Dorff asked if he could have a
history of business contributions.
Family Fun & Games:
Henry Dorff said they had 301 people participate. From the analysis of the
number of people participating, it has become more popular and more diverse. It was suggested we pass out
flyers about all of the activities as people are coming to the park. It was suggested we have directional signs
to all of the events. Ab Johnston suggesting passing out flyers at the fishing contest. It was also suggested
we give out punch cards where people would have them punched at each event. It would be a matter of
volunteers to punch cards. After getting them punched, it could be deposited for door prizes.
Ice Cream Social:
Phil Cohen said it was the usual group. It went off okay. He said hopefully
when it gets upgraded that it will be more of a gala.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
Sue LaCrosse said the numbers were down this year.
Music/Fireworks:
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Nelson to
book the Rockin’ Hollywoods for next year.
Parade:
The parade was not as well attended this year. However, it was a really nice
parade. Sue LaCrosse said all of the bands said they would be back. There was a discussion on Park Center
band. It was decided to discuss it at another meeting.
Publicity:
No report.
Tennis Event:
Ab Johnston said it went much better than last year. They had a lot more

participants.
Teen Event:
Sue LaCrosse said only about 100 youth participated. Those who came had a great time.
They would like to move it over to the parking lot of Brooklyn Center High School. There were no
problems. She said money would be a problem because they got a grant from the Brooklyn Center Family
Services Collaborative. Phil Cohen said we should put it on the agenda to finance and help find a sponsor.
Youth Golf Tournament:
Sue LaCrosse said Arnie would like to continue for next year..
NEW BUSINESS:
None.

City of Brooklyn Center 4,154.15 Publicity, film, processing, fireworks,
Fishing contest prizes.
On-Site Sanitation 400.00 Portable restrooms – parade
Brooklyn Center Community Ed. 45.00 Earle Brown School building supervisor
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to pay these bills. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Sue LaCrosse said the police chief e-mailed her with idea for a car show for next year’s festival. Henry Dorff
will give him a call. It would be nice to have a swimming event. Sue LaCrosse said they do have a pool
special every year.

Henry Dorff said next year will be the 20 Anniversary of EBD. He would like to have a display of buttons
and other memorabilia. Sue LaCrosse said it might be fun to have the past EBD chairpersons ride in the
parade.

Tuesday, September 25, 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room A.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Councilmember Nelson, seconded by Cathy Ballot to adjourn the
meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 a.m.
