HomeMy WebLinkAbout2001 05-15 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 15, 2001 PRESENT: Phil Cohen, Councilmember Ed Nelson, Larry Roen, Karen Youngberg, Henry Dorff, Cathy Ballot, Tony Ditty, Toni Johns, and Sue LaCrosse. Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Tony Ditty seconded by Larry Roen to approve the minutes of April 24, 2001. Family Fun & Games: Henry Dorff said he has made the adjustment on the balloon toss. Ice Cream Social: Phil Cohen will firm everything up with Brookdale this week.  Kids Fishing Contest: Henry Dorff said BrookPark Dental would sponsor again. Sue LaCrosse said they have already purchased the prizes. Music/Fireworks: No report. Parade: Tony Ditty reported that Ernee McArthur would be the grand marshal. The Historical Society will follow her car with a trolley bus, which will promote the book. There are 67 units so far plus 5 bands. Tony said he needs about $1,200 more to help pay for the prize money for the additional band category. He hopes to get the money from a business. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said at the last meeting, the board approved $2,000 for publicity. She has gotten prices and said she would like to place one more ad with the Star Tribune in their Variety Section for the arts & crafts fair. This would bring the total cost for publicity to $2,150.37. There was a motion by Tony Ditty seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the publicity budget for $2,150.37. Motion carried. Tennis Event: Henry Dorff said it is all set. Teen Event: Sue LaCrosse said she went out to the site to figure out where everything should go. The showmobile will go in the parking lot of Earle Brown School facing Humboldt Ave. The tent will go in Grandview Park. There will be two officers and several volunteer chaperones. Toni Johns suggested Bill Koncar because he knows many of the students. Most of the publicity will be centered in the Brooklyn Center School District area for the first year. The students will be responsible for most of the publicity and for getting letters out to the neighbors informing them of the dance. Youth Golf Tournament: No report. FINANCIAL REPORT: Cathy Ballot reported a balance of $7,119.59 in checking plus a deposit of $2,600 for a total of $9,719.59 in checking. There are no outstanding checks. The check to the Powder Puff Clown Club that has not been cashed has been entered back into checking. There is $2,306.23 in one CD coming due on December 6, 2001 and $8,981.57 in the other CD coming due November 22, 2001. 1 Arts & Crafts Fair: Toni Johns reported that she would be having surgery around June 11. She said her husband would be available to help. Phil Cohen said we would make it work. OLD BUSINESS: Henry Dorff passed out the business listing for going around soliciting for donations. Tony Ditty and Karen Youngberg will help. NEW BUSINESS: Sue LaCrosse said she received a fax from Kara Baker and 8 year old girl who wants to help at Earle Brown Days. Karen Youngberg will make a contact with her to see what she wants to do. Henry Dorff said he would like to see some type of recognition dinner for all the volunteers especially those is the commissions. Phil Cohen said it takes a lot of work. We will discuss this item at a future meeting. PAYMENT OF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center $101.66 Postage Nystrom Publishing $431.32 Letterhead There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to pay these bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, June 5, 7:30 a.m. in Conference Room A. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Phil Cohen seconded by Karen Youngberg to adjourn the meeting.
