Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
April 16, 2002
PRESENT:
Councilmember Ed Nelson, Larry Roen, Cathy Ballot, Dan Vang, Toni
Johns, Ab Johnston, Tony Ditty, Henry Dorff, and Sue LaCrosse.
Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:33 a.m.
There was a motion by Larry Roen, seconded by Dan Vang to approve the minutes of March 19, 2002.
Motion carried.
Henry Dorff said we would hold off with the financial report until Phil Cohen arrived.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Toni Johns reported there are 21 paid crafters with four of them requesting
double booths. Toni Johns would like an ad placed in one or more of the alternative newspapers advertising
for crafters. Sue LaCrosse said none of the food vendors have turned in their applications. Toni Johns will
call them.
Phil Cohen arrived at the meeting.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Cathy Ballot reported $1,834.85 in checking, $9,342.12 in one CD and another
for $2,380.46. There was a motion by Toni Johns, seconded by Tony Ditty to approve the financial report.
Motion carried.
Karen Youngberg arrived at the meeting.
Budget and Finance:
Phil Cohen asked if there should be any changes in the letter. Dan Vang would
like the Teen Street Dance added. Phil Cohen has been out meeting with businesses especially those that
have changed names or ownership. He said some of them have been unable to contribute the last year or two
for various reasons. He will talk to them again this year. Phil Cohen would like to get the letters out this
week. He asked Sue LaCrosse to fax him last year’s letter.
Family Fun & Games:
Henry Dorff said there would be no major changes. Tony Ditty recommended
we not give out the extra water balloons to kids because they end up all around the park. It was hard to pick
up all of the pieces last year. Henry Dorff said he will have about 150 balloons.
Ice Cream Social:
Phil Cohen said that said he has met with Amanda Hogan and all is set with
Bridgeman’s. The Earle Brown Days committee will have to come up with some type of system for check in,
probably giving out some type of ticket. Sue LaCrosse said we could stamp the hands of people when they
get a ticket to prevent the problem of going for seconds. The recreation department has rubber stamps that
can be used.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
No report.
Music/Fireworks:
Sue LaCrosse said that everything is all set.

Parade:
Tony Ditty reported there are 8 bands including Brooklyn Center and 45 other units.
He would like 2 more bands. Tony Ditty said his first choice for grand marshal is not available. Other
suggestions were made and Tony Ditty will invite someone else.
Publicity:
Sue LaCrosse said with all of the moving, she was not able to put together a proposal. She
will have one for the next meeting.
Tennis Carnival:
Ab Johnston said Roger Boyer will send Sue information for a flyer.
Everything is set to go.
Teen Street Dance:
Dan Vang reported Coke has committed to 2 pallets of product plus a trailer and Pepsi
has committed to 1 pallet. Coke will also provide hats and t-shirts for give-a-ways. He said the Dollar Store
is donating numerous glow in the dark items. Dan Vang is talking to Don Castleman of Chuckwagon to have
a parent’s den area in the restaurant. He will bring a demo of the music that will be played to the next
meeting. He also has a lead on a laser show.
Youth Golf Tournament:
No report.
Other Events:
Sue LaCrosse said the City has scheduled the grand re-opening of the
community center on June 30. This date has been added to the Earle Brown Days schedule.
NEW BUSINESS:
Payment of bills:
City of Brooklyn Center $69.70 Postage
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Larry Roen to pay the bills. Motion carried.

May 7 and 21
June 4, 11, 18
NEXT MEETING:
Tuesday, May 7, 2002 – 7:30 a.m. in City Hall, Conference Room on the lower
level.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Dan Vang to adjourn the meeting. Motion
carried and the meeting was adjourned.
