Arts & Crafts Fair: Saturday will be Rotary day. Phil Cohen said Rotary has embraced this day more tightly than last year. Tony Ditty said that the unused water balloons should be disposed of in a different manner than just giving them out to kids. It is bad for the environment. The ones that are used at the Family Fun & Games are picked up off the ground but the extra ones end up all over the park. Budget and Finance: Sue LaCrosse reviewed the spreadsheet she made regarding the worst case scenario regarding state aid to cities. There is a chance that there is no city money to pay for fireworks, music or the teen street dance. Phil Cohen said he talked to Karen Youngberg who said there is $1,500 in the Discover The Center account. After talking to Bob Peppe, they have decided to donate it to Earle Brown Days for the fireworks. Dan Vang said he many want to sponsor the teen street dance and have it at his business site. He has previous experience working with teens. Sue LaCrosse suggested they meet with the Leo Club at Brooklyn Center High School to see if there is student support. Phil Cohen said he would need to hit the business community a little harder. He said we are losing one bank with the merger of Wells Fargo and Marquette Bank. Family Fun & Games: Phil Cohen said that Rotary is behind this event. Ice Cream Social: Phil Cohen said that Brookdale had considered canceling this event because people complained about the quality of the ice cream and the fact that they ran out last year. Bridgeman’s has contacted the general manager of Brookdale and it is back on. Brookdale wants a control factor in place and there will be some type of set up for a ticket check in. The performance of the community band is difficult because of the sound of the drums and the noise factor. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said she was waiting for the business solicitation letters to go out. Phil Cohen said to go with it. Music/Fireworks: Sue LaCrosse said the Castaways would perform from 6-10 p.m. Phil Cohen said to proceed with the fireworks. 1 Parade: Tony Ditty reported that the applications have been revised. They will now allow the distribution of candy as long as it is handed out along the parade route. No throwing of candy will be permitted. The letters to the bands have already gone out. There has also been a slight change for the bands because now they can perform at the judges stand for a limited time. Phil Cohen said the main goal of this is to reduce the gaps. Ed Nelson said we might want to consider changing the parade route in the future. Tony Ditty said that the police department likes this location because it minimizes the number of officers needed and the number of roads that need to be blocked off. Phil Cohen said other routes have been tried in the past and they have not worked. Sue LaCrosse said this route does not affect any businesses. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said the schedule of events would need to be finalized by the next meeting. Once the summer brochure has been printed, she doesn’t want to make any changes.
