HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 07-23 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes July 23, 2002 PRESENT: Mayor Myrna Kragness, Councilmember Ed Nelson, Henry Dorff, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg and Sue LaCrosse. Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:42 a.m. There was a motion by Councilmember Nelson, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the minutes of June 25, 2002. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report: Sue LaCrosse handed out the treasurer’s report from Cathy Ballot. There is $2,719.66 in checking. It was decided to check to see if our balance will cover the bills. Bill Payment: Karen Youngberg $ 15.00 Gift certificates Henry Dorff 20.05 Balloons, tape, pennies City of Brooklyn Center 66.71 Postage Brooklyn Center Community Ed 30.00 Building supervisor for Earle Brown School ARC 125.00 Radio rental – Parade On-Site Sanitation 419.24 Portable restrooms – Parade Horizon Pro Sound 250.00 Sound equipment – Parade & Family Fun & Games Trophies By Linda 194.00 Trophies – Parade On-Site Sanitation 209.62 Portable restrooms – Teen Street Dance Sue LaCrosse said Dan Vang would reimburse for part of the On-Site Sanitation expense for Teen Street Dance. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Nelson to pay these bills. Motion carried. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to defer payment of $2,740.33 due to the City of Brooklyn Center for publicity, and supplies related to Arts & Crafts Fair and Fishing Contest. Motion carried. There was a motion by Councilmember Nelson, seconded by Karen Youngberg to give Phil Cohen the authorization to make the decision about renewing the CD. Motion carried. Resolution: Mayor Myrna Kragness brought and read a resolution passed by the City Council on July 8, 2002. It was a resolution expressing recognition of and appreciation for the dedicated public service of the Earle Brown Days Committee. Henry Dorff asked Sue LaCrosse to mail a copy to everyone on the committee. Arts & Crafts Fair: No report. Family Fun & Games: Henry Dorff reported it was not as well attended this year. There were 84 adults and 86 kids. Ice Cream Social: Phil Cohen said the stickers and ticket system worked well. Music was well received. The only problem they had was the ice cream was not taken out early enough. Karen Youngeberg 1 suggested they have two lines next year. Phil Cohen said Amanda Hogan, Fanny Farmer and Brookdale were happy. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said BrookPark Dental had a good time and want to do it again next year. Music/Fireworks: Phil Cohen would like to try to get some additional sponsors for this event in case the City’s budget is cut by the State. Parade: No report. Publicity: Karen Youngberg suggested getting a spot on Ken Barlow’s weather. She said volunteers would need to go down to the station. Sue LaCrosse suggested we have volunteer t-shirts next year. She would like to see everyone who volunteers have a shirt. This would include Parade, Arts & Crafts, Family Fun & Games, Teen Street Dance, etc. Everyone should come to the next meeting with an approximate number of volunteers they have and then we can get some price quotes. Tennis Carnival: Henry Dorff said they had 21 kids, 24 adults and 8 workers. They had lots of fun. It was very hot. Teen Street Dance: Sue LaCrosse handed out copies of the survey results that were taken at the dance. Feedback was very positive. She said our police department did a fantastic job. Youth Golf Tournament: Karen Youngberg said Arnie Mavis was very happy to receive the Nintendos for prizes. He wished there would be more kids. Councilmember Nelson asked “How do we get Brooklyn Center kids involved.” NEW BUSINESS: Sue LaCrosse will get some quotes on t-shirts and golf shirts – around 150 would need to be ordered. The following people will have their term expire on 9/30/02: Tony Ditty, Leatha Lemmer, and Councilmember Ed Nelson. Henry Dorff will contact them to see if they are interested in continuing. With the Brooklyn Community Chamber dissolving and Leatha resigning, Phil Cohen will check with chamber members to see if someone else can represent Brooklyn Center on our board. NEXT MEETING:All America Room, lower Tuesday, September 17, 2002 – 7:30 a.m. in the level at CITY HALL. (NOTE: Meeting will be at City Hall.)
