HomeMy WebLinkAbout2002 05-14 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes May 14, 2002 PRESENT: Councilmember Ed Nelson, Larry Roen, Cathy Ballot, Dan Vang, Toni Johns, Tony Ditty, Henry Dorff, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, and Sue LaCrosse. Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Larry Roen to approve the minutes of May 7, 2002. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Ballot reported $2,358.15 in checking, $9,362.76 in one CD, and $2,386.63 in another CD for a total of $14,107.54. She said there is a deposit for today of $1,075. Budget and Finance: Phil Cohen said the money has started to come in. He said Bremer Bank has approved $500. Dale Greenwald is back and Norwest/Marquette Bank seemed to act favorably. Family Fun & Games: Karen Youngberg said they need to start getting donations. Henry Dorff said he has a listing of businesses. He is confident Tony Kuefler would also make some contacts. Tony Ditty, Henry Dorff, Karen Youngberg and hopefully Tony Kuefler will make the contacts. Henry Dorff said he thinks they had 150 water balloons last year. Karen Youngberg suggested adding a game that is popular in the Asian community. Phil Cohen said it is a matter of time because the event needs to be done by 4 p.m. The games have already been promoted. It was decided it would be discussed for next year. Ice Cream Social: Phil Cohen will meet with Brookdale for the logistics of giving out the ice cream. He will also find out the location of the event. Arts & Crafts Fair: Toni Johns reported there are 43 crafters but we are short food vendors. Sue LaCrosse said there are some she has on a waiting list and will fax to her. Toni Johns said the Relay For Life group was very excited to be able to exhibit at the craft fair with no charge. Kid’s Fishing Contest: No report. Music/Fireworks: No report. Parade: Tony Ditty said there are 67 units plus 8 bands. The theme this year is veterans. He has two potential grand marshals and will have a picture and biography for Sue LaCrosse shortly. Brooklyn Center High School band is without a director and will not be able to participate this year. It was suggested that Champlin Park serve as lead band. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said she placed crafters wanted ads in the diversity newspapers. It is hard to say whether it worked or not. She will be placing small display ads in them. Tennis Carnival: No report. 1 Teen Street Dance: Dan Vang said he has a PA system. Chuckwagon will provide the parent’s den. Sue LaCrosse said we need adult chaperones. Dan Vang has some from his church, but it would be nice to have a diverse group of chaperones. Sue LaCrosse said Pat Milton called and wanted to help. She suggested adult chaperones and hasn’t heard from Pat since. Dan Vang said Coke has thrown in a trailer. Youth Golf Tournament: Karen Youngberg will touch base with Arnie. Other Events: None. NEW BUSINESS: Sue LaCrosse asked who needed flyers for what events. Dan would like about 50 Kid’s Fishing Contest; Toni would like Family Fun & Games, Arts & Crafts and Teen Street Dance. Schedule of meeting dates: June 4, 11, 18 NEXT MEETING: Tuesday, June 4, 2002 – 7:30 a.m. in City Hall, Conference Room on the lower level. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Karen Youngberg to adjourn the meeting at 8:05 a.m. Motion carried and the meeting was adjourned.
