Meeting Minutes
January 21, 2003
PRESENT:
Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Dan Vang, Daniel LaFond, Toni Johns,
Tony Ditty and Sue LaCrosse.
Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 7:32 a.m.
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve the minutes of September 17,
2002. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report:
Cathy Ballot, Treasurer sent in the financial report. Wells Fargo checking balance as
ndrd
of January 13, 2003 is $3,740.43. Two outstanding checks for 2 & 3 place floats of $300.00. Time
deposit 1.69% due 7-22-03 of $9,529.44 and a Time Deposit 1.69% due 8-6-03 for $2,416.75. Total is
$15,386.62. There was a motion by Karen Youngberg, seconded by Toni Johns to accept the treasurer’s
report. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Toni Johns said she is concerned with the food vendors. She would like to take
a look at the possible vendors the end of February. She will call the ones she is interested in. Tony Ditty said
he thinks the Lions Club will want to have their trailer again.
Budget/Finance:
Phil Cohen said the City would not pay for the fireworks this year. He said the
in-kind contribution for the parade and other events has not been ruled out. He said the city manager
recognizes the need for a civic celebration. Phil Cohen said we have to figure out whether we have the
resources to finance the fireworks. Solicitations to the business community will include the budget shortfall
to the city. We probably have the finances to put on the 2003 festival, but 2004 will be tough. No new
projects can be subsidized.
Family Fun & Games:
Karen Youngberg reported that she and Henry Dorff will work on this
together.
Ice Cream Social:
Phil Cohen met with the Brookdale manager and this event is on.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
Sue LaCrosse will have to contact BrookPark Dental but is assuming they want
to sponsor this event again.
Music/Fireworks:
Phil Cohen asked Sue LaCrosse to contact the fireworks company to see what
we can get for $5,000. He said there is no sense in putting on a cheap display.
Parade:
Tony Ditty said the Lions will come up with $5,000 again. Phil Cohen asked if we
could look at the awards to see if they could be shaded back. He will check with Brooklyn Park to see what
they do. Toni Johns will check to see if the Brooklyn Center High School Band could participate.
Publicity:
Sue LaCrosse said it will have to be scaled back. She will try to put together a budget for the
next meeting.

Tennis Carnival:
No Report.
Teen Street Dance:
Dan Vang said the comments he heard was that the DJ’s were too specialized.
He said he was concerned as to whether they could use the city’s showmobile and picnic tables again.
Youth Golf Tournament:
Karen Youngberg said she thought it would be continued.
NEW BUSINESS:
Thunder Alley would like to sponsor a Medallion Hunt. This will go on the next
meeting’s agenda.
Daniel Lafond of Heart Alive suggested partnering with businesses that are advertising with the Sun Post with
a tag line. He said he has a 20-year background and experience in the catering and corporate picnic area. He
suggested a water wars game. He said they would come out and there is no charge to EBD. He is also
interested in partnering with EBD for a musical festival. He will bring in his proposals to the next meeting.
Payment of bills:
City of Brooklyn Center $32.90 Postage
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Dan Vang to pay the bills. Motion carried.
There was a motion by Dan Vang, seconded by Tony Ditty to appoint Daniel LaFond to a 3-year term on the
board of directors. Motion carried.

Tuesday, March 18, 2003 – 7:30 a.m. in the
at CITY HALL.

ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Daniel LaFond to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:10 a.m.
