Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of June 3, 2003. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $4,434.09. With the two CD’s there is a balance of $16,400.52. She has received a deposit of $3,735 today for the arts & crafts fair and donations. There was a motion by Daniel LaFond, seconded by Ab Johnston to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Arts & Crafts Fair: Toni Johns reported it is doing well. She finished up all of the confirmation letters and they will go out today. She had to call a lot of the exhibitors to find out if they were leaving at 6 p.m. or staying. She wanted to know about the possibility of requiring people to stay until 9. Sue LaCrosse said it is a safety issue with exhibitors packing up at that time. There are people with lots of children coming for the fireworks. Toni Johns said there are four food vendors – the Lions, lemonade, Greek food and mini donuts. We have one more application out. If they don’t come through, she may call Tribal Tastes. Pat Milton will do the map for her and make a list of vendors with booth number and alphabetical. Everyone who wanted the same booth as last year got it. Everyone who wanted electricity got it. She and Leo will do the signs. Sue LaCrosse will check the locations and whether or not the signs can be put up on Friday. Budget/Finance: Phil Cohen said he is trying to get public input. The pass the hat doesn’t appeal to him. He would like to distribute a card that says you are invited to become a sponsor of Earle Brown Days. He would hand them out to the crowd on Saturday and Saturday night. The wording would indicate we need your support because of diminishing resources. He needs to figure out what type of recognition. Henry Dorff said that is a good idea because the people who come to the events want to come back. Family Fun & Games: Henry Dorff said he has made some solicitations to about 15 businesses on his list and some have to be processed through the main office. He has about six who have responded. Daniel LaFond said he has about four gift certificates. Henry Dorff would like to collect everything so that he can make a listing. He would like to have this list provided at all of the events. Toni Johns said there are more Rotary volunteers signed up to help than are needed. Henry Dorff indicated he has a couple more. Ice Cream Social: Phil Cohen said David Galchutt said everything is set to go. The Lioness Club is working the event. Insurance: Sue LaCrosse said our insurance agent was able to get our premium down. She will need a check for $1,240 today. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse asked Toni Johns if Leo has pliers to take the fish hooks out. She asked her to have him bring them. Ab Johnston asked if the person working the fishing contest would 1 announce the tennis event. Sue LaCrosse said yes. Music/Fireworks: No report. Parade: Tony Ditty reported they have looked over the route. There is one block on Humboldt that we cannot use. He would like to barricade Earle Brown School lot because cars have a tendency to park in the lot and it is needed for buses. Toni Johns said there are barricades at the school. Tony Ditty said the nd judge’s stand would remain at 62 Ave. He will ask the bands where they would like it to be. Henry Dorff said NW Athletic Club would like to get a unit in the parade and Sue LaCrosse said the Brooklyn Center Girl’s Fastpitch Softball team would like to be in the parade. Publicity: No report. Tennis Carnival: Ab Johnston said they should have bigger participation this year. Teen Street Dance: Dan Vang said it is all ready to go. The teens met last week and there is good participation from the Leo Club this year. Chaperones will include his church congregation, Daniel and the Lions. Teen Dance: Daniel LaFond reported he would take the décor from the Friday dance and use it on Saturday. Teen Challenge, an organization in the Twin Cities that is successful in working with people with additions, will help chaperone.
