HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 06-17 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 17, 2003 PRESENT: Mayor Myrna Kragness, Phil Cohen, Cathy Ballot, Tony Ditty, Ab Johnston, , Henry Dorff, John Krause and Sue LaCrosse. Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Henry Dorff said there is a correction in the minutes under Teen Dance. It should read Teen Challenge, an organization in the Twin Cities that is successful in working with people with addictions, will help chaperone. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of June 10, 2003 with the correction. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $8,047.74. There is an outstanding check for insurance for $1,240 leaving a checkbook balance of $6,807.74. With the CD’s, there is a balance of $28,328.47. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Ab Johnston to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Arts & Crafts Fair: Sue LaCrosse said the confirmation notices went out. There are about three more crafters than last year. Budget/Finance: Phil Cohen said he would bring a draft of information to be printed on cards. It is something that would be handed out at the various events inviting people to support Earle Brown Days. He would need some type of drop box with a site to be determined. Family Fun & Games: Henry Dorff said he would like someone to start the individual games. Phil Cohen suggested he go to Rotary to recruit someone. Ice Cream Social: No report. Insurance: Sue LaCrosse said the check was mailed. She will call the company to confirm they received it. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said she received a check for $200 from BrookPark Dental for sponsorship. The prizes have been purchased and she is under budget. One staff person from the recreation department will work and the rest will be volunteers from BrookPark Dental. Music/Fireworks: Phil Cohen said he will need a check. Parade: Tony Kuefler is the recipient of the Brooklyn Center Hall of Fame and will ride in the parade in unit #8, the Brooklyn Historical Society. Tony Ditty met with the police department. The barricades are set. Crystal cannot provide any reserve officers. There will not be as many officers on bicycles this year. Kevin Benner has asked North Memorial to provide paramedics on bicycles. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse said our ads will be in the Variety Section of the Star Tribune on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The Sun Post tabloid will be out Thursday. Ads are also placed in the Family Times 1 and Asian Pages. Tennis Carnival: Ab Johnston said they are all set. Teen Street Dance: No report. Teen Dance: No report. Youth Golf Tournament: No report. OLD BUSINESS: Mayor Kragness reported that two hotels would mail their certificates to city hall. Henry Dorff asked those who had made collections to give them to him, as he needs to put together a list. He would like to publish the listing of businesses on posters at the various events. PAYMENT OF BILLS: City of Brooklyn Center $ 106.37 Fishing Contest Prizes Kentco Signs 246.65 Change dates on banners There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Cathy Ballot to pay the bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference Tuesday, June 24, 2003 – 7:30 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
