HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 03-18 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes March 18, 2003 PRESENT: Phil Cohen, Dan Vang, Daniel LaFond, Toni Johns, Ab Johnston, Kathleen Carmody, Cathy Ballot, David Galchutt, Larry Roen, Tony Ditty and Sue LaCrosse. Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 7:35 a.m. Parade: Tony Ditty said everything is going good. Sue LaCrosse said there are 17 units plus two bands, Hastings and Champlin Park. Toni Johns said the Brooklyn Center High School Band would also be in the parade. Sue LaCrosse said the Powder Puff Clown Club requires $225 this year. Phil Cohen asked if we needed a clown unit. Tony Ditty said yes because the children like them. He suggested we keep the St. Paul Clown Club because they will space themselves out. It was decided we would eliminate the float prize money and just give them trophies. Tony Ditty said we could eliminate the $750 for grand champion too. There was a motion by Toni Johns, seconded by Daniel LaFond to approve the reduced budget. Motion carried. Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $3,671.72. She will add in the two outstanding checks from last year’s parade. With the two CD’s there is a balance of $15,291.70. There was a motion by David Galchutt, seconded by Kathleen Carmody to approve the treasurer’s report. Kathleen Carmody reported that at the City Council’s work session, they approved the City’s in-kind contribution to pay for everything they have in the past except the fireworks. Phil Cohen expressed appreciate to the Council for this. Arts & Crafts Fair: Sue LaCrosse said there are seven booth spaces sold so far. The food vendor applications just went out because Hennepin County Health Dept was delayed in sending the food license information. Toni Johns said we have some really good food vendors on the waiting list with a variety of foods. Toni Johns said if we advertise in the minority newspapers for crafters, we should add “personally hand-made items.” Ice Cream Social: David Galchutt reported he has a signed contract with the Resistors. They will begin playing at 6:30 p.m. and play 60’s & 70’s music. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse will contact BrookPark Dental. Youth Golf Tournament: Phil Cohen said he talked with Karen Youngberg and this event is set. Family Fun & Games: No report. Music/Fireworks: Sue LaCrosse said she has a contract for the fireworks for $6,000. There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the fireworks for $6,000. Motion carried. Phil Cohen will contact Dale Greenwald to see if his band is available to play. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse asked for approval on the information to be included in the next City Watch. 1 There was a motion by Cathy Ballot, seconded by Kathleen Carmody to approve the flyer for the newsletter. Motion carried. Tennis Carnival: Ab Johnston said everything is okay. Teen Street Dance: Dan Vang said it is going. OLD BUSINESS: Phil Cohen will meet with Renee of Thunder Alley regarding the Medallion Hunt and Daniel LaFond regarding the Water Wars Game and Music Festival. Payment of bills: City of Brooklyn Center $101.38 Postage Arts Directory $265.00 Listing for crafters There was a motion by David Galchutt, seconded by Larry Roen to pay the bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference Tuesday, April 15, 2003 – 7:30 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL. Meeting Schedule: April 15, May 20, June 3, 10, 17, and 24.
