HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003 09-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes September 16, 2003 PRESENT: Henry Dorff, Daniel LaFond, David Galchutt, Ab Johnston, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Toni Johns, Ritchie Miller and Sue LaCrosse. Henry Dorff called the meeting to order at 8:09 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of July 22, 2003. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $3,111.98 with two outstanding checks. Balance with outstanding checks subtracted is $2,061.98. With the CD’s, there is a balance of $14,508.09. There was a motion by Ab Johnston, seconded by Kathleen Carmody to accept the financial report. Motion carried. Henry Dorff introduced Ritchie Miller who will be co-chairing the Family Fun & Games next year. APPROVAL OF RENEWAL OF BOARD MEMBER TERMS There was a motion by Toni Johns, seconded by Karen Youngberg to approve appointment of Cathy Ballot for a three-year term. Motion carried. APPROVAL OF 2004 OFFICERS There was a motion by Toni Johns, seconded by Daniel LaFond to approve the 2004 officers. Motion carried. Arts & Crafts Fair: Toni Johns said everything went pretty smoothly this year. She said they had to help crafters at the end pack up and bring stuff to their vehicles. She did not receive any complaints. Sue LaCrosse said the only complaint she heard from crafters was about the man selling the toys and Beanie Babies because they were not handcrafted. If we knew who he was, she would take him off the mailing list. She said she heard a lot of good comments from people regarding the quality of the show this year. Daniel LaFond would like a copy of the Midwest Art Directory. Sue will see if she has an extra copy. Budget/Finance: Phil Cohen said the Arts & Crafts Fair was the only moneymaker. Last year (January 2003), there was a balance of $15,386. We are doing very well. Karen Youngberg suggested getting prizes on sale throughout the year when stuff is 50% off. She would store the stuff. She said Robbinsdale does that for their Easter Egg Hunt. Family Fun & Games: Henry Dorff said it went well. The weather was good. Karen Youngberg said they could have used a couple more people to help. Ab Johnston suggested a 3 on 3 basketball event or some type of softball hitting contest on the field. Toni Johns will talk to someone about adding the basketball event. Ice Cream Social: David Galchutt said they will continue the ice cream social. However, they will probably not continue the music. 1 Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said there were 60 kids. This year there were only four fish caught. She asked if the committee wanted this event to continue. The committee indicated they want this event to continue. Sue LaCrosse suggested some type of give-a-way to each child to be given when they check in. Music/Fireworks: Phil Cohen reported Dale Greenwald’s band would perform again. The Brooklyn Center Fire Department has donated $8,000 for the fireworks. Parade: Phil Cohen and Toni Johns indicated the Lions Club has given a verbal commitment to sponsor the parade again. Publicity: No report. Tennis Carnival: Ab Johnston reported they had a good experience. They get the overflow from the fishing contest. They see people coming back each year. He talked to Roger and it is full steam ahead for next year. He said transportation is a problem. Phil Cohen said the Salvation Army has transportation and are running youth programs all the time. Toni Johns said a church rents the school for services and they have a large youth population. She will call Ab with the contact person. Teen Street Dance: No report. Teen Dance: Daniel LaFond said there was a lot of positive feedback. Youth Golf Tournament: Arnie Mavis was pleased with the turnout. He intends to keep it going and will decided in the next couple months whether it will remain a youth tournament or a family tournament. Other Events: Karen Youngberg is working with Ref’s to sponsor a car show. OLD BUSINESS: Kathleen Carmody reported she pushed for City support of Earle Brown Days in regards to Sue’s time and police. NEW BUSINESS: Payment of Bill City of Brooklyn Center $6.66 Postage There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Karen Youngberg to pay bill. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Tuesday, October 21, 2003 – 8:00 a.m. in the Conference Room, lower level at CITY HALL. ADJOURN: The meeting was adjourned.
