Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2004
PRESENT:
David Galchutt, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil
Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Ritchie Miller, Shane Mason, Dan Vang and Sue
LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Cathy Ballot to
approve the minutes of January 20, 2004. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Sue LaCrosse said she would be sending out the application soon. She is waiting for
the envelopes to be printed. Phil Cohen asked who would be the honorary non-profit group?
Family Fun & Games:
Karen Youngberg reported that Rotary has budgeted $500. Karen Youngberg
has purchased some door prizes for small children. If a committee member finds some things on sale, they
should purchase it. Let Karen know what you purchased and how much you spent. Phil Cohen said we need
more water balloons this year. They ran out last year.
Ice Cream Social:
David Galchutt said at this time, they do not know where they will purchase the
ice cream. They will not have entertainment this year because it seems like the people just want the ice
cream.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
Sue LaCrosse said Henry Dorff had left her a message with a contact person at
the DNR who might be able to get the creek stocked with fish. She called the person and he said it was not
worth it. The DNR is not interested in stocking the creek. Sue LaCrosse asked if we still wanted to offer the
fishing contest. In the past few years, the number of fish caught has really diminished. The committee would
like this event continued. Karen Youngberg has some ideas of little prizes we might be able to give out to
every participant.
Music/Fireworks:
Sue LaCrosse said the fireworks contract would provide a policy for a rain
date. It sounds like it would cost us 7% to hold the fireworks on a rain date. If we had to postpone a second
time, it would be 10%. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody
to designate Sunday, June 27 as the scheduled fireworks rain date. Motion carried.
Parade:
Karen Youngberg said the Lions Club has committed $5,000 for the parade.
Publicity:
The deadline for the schedule of activities would be at the March meeting because the
information needs to go into the City Watch newsletter.
Tennis Carnival:
No report.
Teen Street Dance:
Dan Vang said he would like to have the teen street dance again. The only
issue is the use of the showmobile. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody checked with City Manager Mike
McCauley and it is not in the city’s contribution. It would cost approximately $200 to have it moved from
the shopping center to Central Park. The committee decided this would be added into the budget.
1
Youth Golf Tournament:
Karen Youngberg said she talked to Arnie Mavis and the tournament will be
held for sure.
Other Events:
Sue LaCrosse said Blue Cross/Blue Shield is considering holding an event during Earle
Brown Days. They have a fitness campaign that will be held in Brooklyn Center. She would like the ability
to schedule this event. The committee said to go ahead. Karen Youngberg suggested a helicopter and/or the
REMAX hot air balloon land in Central Park. She will check into those two things and report back at the
next meeting. She said the car show is not going to work out this year.
Financial Report:
Kathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $2,018.45 with one outstanding check
for $265 for arts directory. There is $10,037.45 in one CD and $2,441.88 in another CD. There was a
