Meeting Minutes
June 1, 2004
PRESENT:
Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Karen
Youngberg, Ritchie Miller, Ab Johnston, Tony Ditty, Toni Johns, Henry Dorff, David
Galchutt and Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:04 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Cathy Ballot to
approve the minutes of May 18, 2004. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
Cathy Ballot reported $11,298.54 in checking, $10,055.00 in one CD, $2,444.52 in the
other CD. Total is $23,798.06. The CD was rolled over. She will be adding a deposit for $1,126. Sue
LaCrosse reviewed the spreadsheet of actual revenues and expenses received to date. She recommended we
drop the Hmong Times and Asian Pages ads because we did not receive any participants from them the last
two years. We will be incurring some expenses we have not had before like the barricades for the parade and
the cost of a maintenance person on Saturday.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Toni Johns said the crafters are slow. The letter went out to all crafters in the show
last year. There are two food vendors. She will call some of those on the waiting list. She asked when the
signs could go out. Sue LaCrosse said she will check with John Harlow. She said the Boys & Girls Club will
participate as the non-profit group. The Brooklyn Center Mom’s Club is interested for next year.
Budget/Finance:
No Report.
Family Fun & Games:
Toni Johns said she had a fair response from the sign-up sheet at Rotary.
Henry Dorff said all business are assigned and he is about 80% through. Karen Youngberg said Fast Signs
would make us a sign with the businesses on it. There was a motion by Toni Johns, seconded by
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to put those businesses on the sign whose donation has a value of $50 or
more. Motion carried.
Ice Cream Social:
David Galchutt reported everything is all set, including the entertainment. The
Women’s Club is giving out tickets and stamping hands. They did a mailing to their Kid’s Club, which has
about 550 members. Flyers are also available at guest services.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
No report.
Music/Fireworks:
No report.
Parade:
Tony Ditty said he has a vehicle for the Twins mascot. Things look good. There are 70 units
plus 7 bands. There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by David Galchutt to pay
the St. Paul Clown Club $300. There was a motion by David Galchutt, seconded by Councilmember
Kathleen Carmody for Sue LaCrosse to negotiate a better price with the Zuhrah Antique Car unit. Motion
carried.
Publicity:
No report.

Tennis Event:
Ab Johnston reported it is all set. He has a conflict that day, but Roger Boyer
has it all worked out.
Teen Street Dance:
Sue LaCrosse said the What’s Up staff will assist. She called Pat Milton for
additional volunteers and she had her talk to Amy Teske. Sue is not sure where we stand with volunteers.
Youth Golf Tournament:
Karen Youngberg said the tournaments are all set.
Other Events:
Sue LaCrosse said Councilmember Kathleen Carmody had sent her an Oriental
Trading Company catalog. Karen and Kathleen will look through it to see if there is anything we could order
for the Family Fun & Games and Kid’s Fishing Contest. Sue said the city has an account there and if you
order $60 or more, we receive free shipping.
Bill Payment:
NSI $1,508.00 Insurance premium
There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by Henry Dorff to approve payment of the bill. Motion carried.
NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference
Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Tony Ditty to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:40 a.m.
