HomeMy WebLinkAbout2004 03-16 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes March 16, 2004 PRESENT: David Galchutt, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Ritchie Miller, Ab Johnston, Shane Mason, Tony Ditty, Amy Lyons and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Ritchie Miller to approve the minutes of February 17, 2004. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported $2,015.94 in checking, $10,042.26 in one CD, $2,442.60 in the other CD. Sue LaCrosse handed out a spreadsheet of actual revenues and expenses received to date. We have received one donation of $200 so far. There was a motion by Ab Johnston, seconded by David Galchutt to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Arts & Crafts Fair: Sue LaCrosse said there are four applications back so far. One additional application has been received but she crossed off the line that states her merchandise is handmade. She wrote a note stating someone gave her permission last year to sell commercial items. Sue LaCrosse will ask Toni Johns about this. Phil Cohen asked who the featured community group would be? Karen Youngberg suggested InnerCity Tennis. Ab Johnston will check with Roger Boyer and Karen Youngberg will check with Toni Johns. Budget/Finance: Phil Cohen would like to get the letters out soon. He would like to have Henry Dorff’s name added to the letters. Family Fun & Games: Ritchie Miller said the Family Fun & Games doesn’t happen until Henry gets back. Karen Youngberg said they could get out to get the prizes. Phil Cohen suggested tool kits for $5 at Menard’s. Gift certificates are nice but the kids like something more tangible. Ice Cream Social: David Galchutt reported Molly’s Creamery would sponsor the ice cream social. They have moved in the old Fanny Farmer spot. There is a group who will play music. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse said she assumes BrookPark Dental will sponsor and is just waiting until the sponsorship letter goes out. Music/Fireworks: No report. Tennis Event: Ab Johnston said they always have their own prizes. The committee gave them prizes lat year too. He said adults love getting the prizes just as much as the kids. Parade: Tony Ditty reported “Honor the Military” would be the theme. He has contacted a man who will get a group of military vehicles and is working on getting one or more individuals who have been or are currently in the military to be grand marshal. Candy and buttons may be handed out along the curb. Nothing can be thrown from vehicles. There is a limit of 100 units. Sue LaCrosse said it is an election year. During an election year, it is very difficult to control politicians from handing out literature. She suggested we 1 consider charging a fee. The issue of politicians was tabled for the April meeting. Publicity: Sue LaCrosse handed out the schedule of events. She asked everyone to proof it and let her know if there are any modifications. This is the information that will go into the City Watch newsletter. Teen Street Dance: Karen Youngberg said she has talked to Dan Vang. The Teen Street Dance is a go. However, he is swamped with his new property and told her we may not see him at the meetings for a couple months. Youth Golf Tournament: Karen Youngberg said the tournament is a go. Other Events: Karen Youngberg said the National Guard would be willing to bring a helicopter. It was decided we would have them land on the softball field from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Karen will verify with them and let Sue know. Karen Youngberg said the REMAX hot air balloon might be available for the parade. Amy Lyons from BlueCross BlueShield reported on the campaign being kicked off in Brooklyn Center on April 17. As part of the campaign they would like to create a “Do.” Drill Team made up of Brooklyn Center residents. The Drill Team would be a routine choreographed by the Brooklyn Center High School dance line coach that would be unveiled during the Earle Brown Days parade. Other potential venues for the Drill Team would be the ice cream social at Brookdale Center, the barbecue at the local pool, and the family fun and games activity at Central Park. Sue LaCrosse said if the Brooklyn Center dance line coach is not interested, her children’s dance instructor might be. She said some of the dance students might be interested in participating. Amy Lyons will contact Toni Johns regarding participation by the dance line coach. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve Amy Lyons to go ahead with this idea. Motion carried. Bill Payment: Printing Resources $266.25 Printing of envelopes City of Brooklyn Center 85.84 Postage for February There was a motion by Tony Ditty, seconded by David Galchutt to approve payment of the bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
