Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
November 16, 2004
PRESENT:
Ritchie Miller, Karen Youngberg, Cathy Ballot,
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Shelley Klaessy and Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion made by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Cathy Ballot
to approve the minutes of the September 21 meeting. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $2,090.59. The CD’s have been
combined. The CD balance is $14,456.18. Total amount is $16,636.77. There was a motion made by
Ritchie Miller, seconded by Phil Cohen to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Sue LaCrosse said she has put in the ad into the arts directory.
Budget/Finance:
Phil Cohen said everything is okay.
Family Fun & Games:
Karen Youngberg said Henry Dorff will help with this event next year. Phil
Cohen said the highlight of the event is the annual shoe kick. He would like to see that promoted in our
publicity.
Ice Cream Social:
Shelley Klaessy from Brookdale Shopping Center said they would like to do
this event again.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
Sue LaCrosse said she thinks BrookPark Dental will continue this event.
Music/Fireworks:
Sue LaCrosse said the Brooklyn Center Fire Relief Association has indicated
they would continue sponsorship of this event. They may increase their sponsorship by $2,000. She has
contacted Len from Americana Fireworks to put together a proposal of what does $2,000 more buy us in the
way of time and in fireworks. She will give this proposal to the Fire Relief Association for their
consideration.
Parade:
The committee reviewed the information about the Northeast parade given to them by Cathy
Ballot. It was decided that Sue LaCrosse would incorporate some of the best points into our information
sheet and entry form. She will bring it to the January meeting for changes and approval.
Publicity:
Sue LaCrosse said the dates for the 2005 festival are June 23-25. Updated information was
sent to the Minnesota Explorer. They required the update last week.
Tennis Event:
No indication from InnerCity Tennis if they will continue. Karen
Youngberg will contact Ab Johnston.
Teen Street Dance:
No report.
Golf Tournaments:
No report.

Other Events:
Karen Youngberg said the helicopter will probably come back as long as there
aren’t any emergencies for the National Guard. She has not had time to talk to TGI Fridays about the car
show. Karen Youngberg will also contact Refs. She said if a committee member finds merchandise kids
would want and it is on sale buy it. Phil Cohen said the video games given out last year were obsolete. So,
be careful about what you get.
New Business:
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen
Carmody to elect Shelley Klaessy from Brookdale to the Earle Brown Board of Directors for a two-year
term. Motion carried.
Cathy Ballot reported that Peacemakers might want to add an event.
Karen Youngberg asked the committee if they had any ideas for a nomination for the special events
recognition award. There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Cathy Ballot to nominate Tony Ditty.
Motion carried.
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to approve payment
of $5.50 to the City of Brooklyn Center for postage. Motion carried.

Tuesday, January 18, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Conference Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Cathy Ballot to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:47 a.m.
