HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 01-18 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes January 18, 2005 PRESENT: Ritchie Miller, Karen Youngberg, Cathy Ballot, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Toni Johns, Phil Cohen, Shelley Klaessy and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion made by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Shelley Klaessy to approve the minutes of the November 16 meeting. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $2,085.27. The CD balance is $14,570.06. Total amount is $16,655.53. There was a motion made by Phil Cohen, seconded by Ritchie Miller to approve the financial report. Motion carried. Arts & Crafts Fair: Toni Johns said there were not as many vendors last year. She recommends we encourage people to bring only handcrafted items but to send out the application in the format used in 2003. She would like to call the food vendors from last year. Caribou Coffee might be interested. Last year we had Culvers, Taste of Greece, Sweet Taste of Italy, and the Lions Club. CEAP was mentioned as a possibility for our featured non-profit organization. Budget/Finance: Phil Cohen asked Sue to give him and Karen Youngberg a copy of last year’s solicitation letter. Family Fun & Games: Karen Youngberg said she would welcome help. Phil Cohen said we should promote Family Fun & Games by featuring the famous Brooklyn Center Shoe Kick. Ice Cream Social: Shelley Klaessy is still planning on it. She is trying to think of how to make it bigger and better. Kid’s Fishing Contest: No report. Music/Fireworks: Sue LaCrosse said Dale Greenwald’s band is not available. It was suggested Joe Brough be called. Parade: The committee reviewed the new parade application. It was suggested to revise the information about the insurance and then it is good to go. Toni Johns said the BCHS band is not a marching band. Her band director suggested they provide a drum line at the beginning of the parade. She said they also have a nice jazz band. Cathy Ballot suggested the jazz band perform at the awards ceremony. Publicity: Karen Youngberg said she would like to talk to Cable 12 about doing a better job of publicizing Earle Brown Days. Last year they combined it with Tater Daze publicity. Tennis Event: Sue LaCrosse said Ab Johnston called her and he has moved out of the area and without him, Inner City Tennis has no interest in continuing. They want to pursue other things. 1 Teen Street Dance: Sue LaCrosse said it appears the Hmong American Shopping Center will be demolished in the spring. There will be no street dance in 2005. Golf Tournaments: No report. Other Events: Karen Youngberg said the helicopter will probably be back. Cathy Ballot said Peacemaker is interested in sponsoring a bike run or Bingo. TGI Fridays will be having a car show and will probably coordinate as an Earle Brown Days event this year. New Business: None. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the Conference Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
