Meeting Minutes
July 19, 2005
PRESENT:
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Cathy Ballot, Karen
Youngberg, John Stewart, Ritchie Miller, and Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:05 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion made by Cathy Ballot, seconded by John Stewart
to approve the minutes of the June 21, 2005 meeting. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $5,734.07 the CD balance of
$14,655.97. Total amount is $20,390.04.
Bill Payments:
On Site Sanitation $ 967.30 Portable Restrooms
District 286 33.50 Building Supervisor at Earle Brown
Horizon Pro Sound 330.00 Sound for Parade & Family Fun & Games
Fast Signs 170.40 Magnetic Sheets for Parade
City of Brooklyn Center 168.07 Postage
City of Brooklyn Center 3,543.88 Ads, ink, fishing contest supplies

There would be about $500 left in checking after all bills were paid. There was a motion by Phil Cohen,
seconded by Ritchie Miller to approve payment of all bills except the City of Brooklyn Center and to hold
their payment until September. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts:
It was reported this did well. Many of the crafters and food vendors were
pleased. Sue LaCrosse said the health department would prefer for us to have a sink between two vendors.
So, for six vendors, we would need three sinks. This will be discussed at a future meeting.
Bingo:
Cathy Ballot said they played 53 games and made a profit of $260.
Family Fun & Games:
Karen Youngberg said the door prizes were well organized. Phil Cohen said
the tickets worked well. They had more than 130 children and more than 130 adults. Karen Youngberg
would like to find a couple seniors to help get door prize donations next year.
Ice Cream Social:
Sue LaCrosse said Shelley is on vacation but sent her an e-mail which said they
spent approximately $1,800 and served almost 350 people.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
Sue LaCrosse said there are not a lot of fish. Councilmember Kathleen
Carmody said that there is not a lot of oxygen in the creek and the fish can’t survive. It will be evaluated at a
future meeting as to whether this event should be continued.
Music/Fireworks:
The committee members received a lot of compliments on the Castaways.
They would like to see them back. The Castaways would like to come back. The fireworks were
spectacular.

Parade:
Sue LaCrosse said we should evaluate the float trophy awards. They don’t stay for the
ceremony. She thinks it is a waste of money for the trophies and for the extra costs in judging them. Phil
Cohen suggested a notice be given out to parade units as they enter Dupont from the lineup area
reminding them they are not allowed to throw candy. He said a lot of the people who are in the parade

are not the ones that received the letter. Phil Cohen said they will work on the streets of 65 Avenue and
Dupont Avenue. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody will find out the schedule for street repair.
Publicity:
Sue LaCrosse said we should discuss this at the September meeting.
Golf Tournaments:
Sue LaCrosse said Source One Credit Union will sponsor the senior
tournament next year.
Other Events:
Sue LaCrosse said the face painting should go longer. Children seemed to
enjoy Shrek & Fiona. Karen Youngberg said the helicopter was good.
Old Business:
None.
New Business:
None.
NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision
Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Conference Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
This will be our annual meeting to appoint member terms,
chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Cathy Ballot to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
