HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 06-07 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 7, 2005 PRESENT: Ritchie Miller, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Shelley Klaessy, Toni Johns, Cathy Ballot, Karen Youngberg, John Stewart and Sue LaCrosse. Phil Cohen called the meeting to order at 8:02 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion made by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to approve the minutes of the May 17, 2005 meeting. Motion carried. John Stewart introduced himself and said he has joined the Brooklyn Center Business Association. His main objective is to put a positive light on Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park. His proposed role as the official photographer for Earle Brown Days would not be paid. We would only pay for prints and/or the CD of pictures. He said we would get one CD for free. There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Cathy Ballot to appoint John Stewart as the official photo journalist for Earle Brown Days. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $9,801.33 and the CD balance of $14,633.39. Total amount is $24,434.72. Sue LaCrosse reported the insurance expense will be $400 less than budgeted due to the elimination of the Teen Street Dance this year. The financial report was approved. Arts & Crafts: There are 27 crafters and food vendors so far. Karen Carlson will not be able to attend this year but said she would be back next year. Family Fun & Games: Councilmember Kathleen Carmody has been out and has received two $15 and numerous $8 gift certificates from T.G.I. Fridays. She has dropped off letters to many businesses. Karen Youngberg said she has not had time to go out much yet. She said Henry Dorff would go out if someone drives him. Sue LaCrosse said Dale Greenwald contributed a personal check for $200 to purchase children’s prizes. Karen Youngberg has all of the information from Henry for last year. She said Henry will be there and Warren Lindquist and one other person will help at the registration table. Ice Cream Social: Shelley Klaessy reported everything is all set. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse has not heard from BrookPark Dental yet this year. She will call them to see if they are planning to help this year. Music/Fireworks: All set. Parade: Sue LaCrosse said the Sun Post needed the parade lineup immediately. She followed Tony Ditty’s format. She said some of the things we need to make sure are taken care of include walkie talkies, trophies, the stakes for line up, the magnetic sheets for cars, and neighbor letter distribution. Cathy Ballot and Sue LaCrosse can do the parade line-up. Phil Cohen suggested Tony Kuefler as a possibility as he has done this before. Karen Youngberg will contact Tony Ditty before we proceed. 1 Publicity: Sue LaCrosse reported that working with the Sun Post has been a challenge this year. They changed staff people a couple weeks ago and her original contact is no longer there. The new person said the staff did not know anything about editorial information. But it looks like things are back on track and that we should have a tabloid. Free public service announcements have gone out to newspapers, radio stations and television stations and BC Buzz has been distributed. The Star Tribune ad will be out on June 23 and 24. The banners will go up next week. Golf Tournaments: No report. Other Events: Karen Youngberg reported the North Memorial helicopter will come out. Old Business: None. New Business: Bill Pay: City of Brooklyn Center $ 70.34 Postage Kentco Signs $275.00 Change dates on banners There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Ritchie Miller to pay the bills. Motion carried. NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
