HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005 06-14 EBDM Earle Brown Days Meeting Minutes June 14, 2005 PRESENT: Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Cathy Ballot, Karen Youngberg, John Stewart and Sue LaCrosse. Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m. APPROVAL OF MINUTES: There was a motion made by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the minutes of the June 7, 2005 meeting. Motion carried. Financial Report: Cathy Ballot reported a checkbook balance of $11,825.99 and the CD balance of $14,638.05. Total amount is $26,464.04. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by John Stewart to approve the financial report. Arts & Crafts: Sue LaCrosse said she received one more crafter and has sent out two applications this week. The health department called because two vendors did not fill out their paperwork adequately. He has contacted them and one has filled out paperwork and the other he cannot reach. It is recommended that if this vendor is denied we do not return his $60. The health department is requiring floors for those on the grass. Sue LaCrosse will call them. Bingo: All set. Budget/Finance: Sue LaCrosse said Tom Shinnick called her and said there was a concern over the number of portable restrooms at the end of the parade. There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Phil Cohen to add to units at $45/each at the end of the parade route. Motion carried. Family Fun & Games: Karen Youngberg said she has had difficulty in getting out soliciting prizes. Sue LaCrosse said Henry might be willing to do so. Karen Youngberg and Phil Cohen will contact some seniors about going out next year. Ice Cream Social: No report. Kid’s Fishing Contest: Sue LaCrosse reported she called Jan Tiffany at BrookPark Dental. She said the information was on her desk and the dentists would not be around that day to host. She said she would check with them to see if they still wanted to support the event and would call her back. To date Sue has not heard from her. Sue LaCrosse said she may need a couple more helpers for registration of children. Karen Youngberg said maybe they could still sponsor with money, but not provide volunteers. Music/Fireworks: All set. Parade: Sue LaCrosse said she ordered the trophies. She and Cathy Ballot will be available to set up the parade. They need the unit stakes, walkie talkies, and helpers the night of the parade. Sue LaCrosse said District 286 dropped out, but it was filled with another unit already. 1 Publicity: Sue LaCrosse reported the Sun Post Tabloid will be very small. They were not able to sell very many ads. The BC Buzz turned out nice and Karen Youngberg said she has gotten a couple calls from it. Sue LaCrosse met with a representative from Radio Disney. They have a party package they can bring out for 90 minutes. This cost includes numerous on air ads. It would tie in nicely with our family oriented day. In order to provide this as an event, we would need a sponsor. Sue LaCrosse asked what the possibility would be for Caribou Coffee to be a sponsor of a major event next year. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody did not think they would do this. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody said she had an idea for a fund raiser a couple years ago called Trivia Contests. It was agreed that she should pursue this as a fundraising idea for next year. Golf Tournaments: Sue LaCrosse reported the Crossings pulled out of sponsoring the Senior Golf Tournament. This is after they got promotion in City Watch and flyers that went out to the schools. She was able to pull them from the Tabloid. She said the senior tournament is filling up very good. The youth tournament will do better once the league starts. Other Events: No report. Old Business: None. New Business: None. ADJOURN: There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Cathy Ballot to adjourn the meeting.
