Meeting Minutes
March 15, 2005
PRESENT:
Karen Youngberg, Ritchie Miller, Councilmember Kathleen Carmody,
Phil Cohen, Shelley Klaessy and Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:06 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion made by Shelley Klaessy, seconded by Ritchie
Miller to approve the minutes of the February 15, 2005 meeting. Motion carried.
Financial Report:
There is a checkbook balance of $1,785.43. The CD balance is $14,592.03. Total
amount is $16,377.46. There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen
Carmody to approve the financial report. Motion carried.
Sue LaCrosse reviewed the budget spreadsheet. There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to approve the preliminary 2005 budget and for it to be adopted at the
next meeting. Motion carried.
Arts & Crafts Fair:
Shelley Klassey said a promoter would charge over $200 for a booth space. The
committee did not think people would pay that for our show. Sue LaCrosse said the applications went out
and we have about 5 back so far.
Budget/Finance:
Phil Cohen and Karen Youngberg will make changes and get letters out in March.
Family Fun & Games:
Karen Youngberg said there will be support from Rotary. She said we need to
start looking for door prizes and that Henry Dorff would probably help. Ritchie Miller will be there to help
coordinate. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody said her daughter and some of her friends might be interested
in helping.
Ice Cream Social:
Shelley Klaessy reported she has hired a barbershop quartet called the Wizards
of Aahs. She will also have face painting and a balloon artist. She will probably work with Bridgeman’s for
ice cream.
Kid’s Fishing Contest:
No report.
Music/Fireworks:
Sue LaCrosse said she did not know how you get across to people just how
spectacular the fireworks will be. Phil Cohen suggested something like biggest, grande.
Parade:
Phil Cohen said we need to hype up the bands. Sue LaCrosse said the entry forms went out.
Publicity:
Sue LaCrosse said we can defer decisions about publicity until the next meeting. She went
through the schedule of events and said the Sports Collectibles show at Brookdale will be added to
Saturday’s events. Sue LaCrosse reported the cost of having characters is $60/hour and $40/hour for face
painting. There is no minimum number of hours. There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to book Shrek, Fiona and face painting from 1-2:00 p.m. Motion carried.
Golf Tournaments:
Karen Youngberg said they are going.
Other Events:
Karen Youngberg is still trying to contact the National Guard. The car
show at T.G.I. Fridays is going for sure. Sue LaCrosse needs to confirm with Pat Milton whether Bingo
would be held. She wants to make sure they have the proper licenses, etc. Councilmember Kathleen
Carmody said they will need a bingo machine. Sue LaCrosse said the community center may have one.
Bill Pay:
City of Brooklyn Center $35.23 Postage
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Phil Cohen to the bill. Motion carried.
NEXT MEETING:Council/Commision Conference
Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Ritchie Miller, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to
adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m.
