Earle Brown Days
Meeting Minutes
April 18, 2006
PRESENT:
Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg, Shelley Klaessy, Nancy Doucette, Mike
Meyer, Cathy Ballot and Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Nancy Doucette, seconded by Shelley Klaessy
to approve the minutes of the March 21, 2006 meeting. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
Cathy Ballot reported $2,733.41 in checking, $12,143.75 in the CD for
a total of $14,877.16. There was a motion by Mike Meyer, seconded by Nancy Doucette to approve the
treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR:
Sue LaCrosse said there are 10 crafters and one food vendor. The
income so far is $510. Karen Youngberg said Deb Lester would like to help, but she is unable to attend
morning meetings. Karen Youngberg will try to have a meeting with Toni Johns, Deb Lester & Sue
LaCrosse.
BINGO
: Cathy Ballot said it is on and cost will be the same as last year, 25 cents per card per game.
FAMILY FUN & GAMES:
Sue LaCrosse said she received an e-mail from Councilmember
Kathleen Carmody. She reported Kathleen has been purchasing prizes for the family fun & games. She
would like this to be her donation. She also wants to know when the list will be ready for people to go out to
solicit for gift certificates. Karen Youngberg said she needs to coordinate with Henry Dorff. Karen
Youngberg is still looking for someone to work with Ritchie Miller this year.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Shelley Klaessy said the Mom’s Club will help serve ice cream again.
KID’S FISHING CONTEST:
Sue LaCrosse said she has received the Dolphin gift bags for the first
150 children.
MUSIC/FIREWORKS:
Sue LaCrosse said Midnight Breeze and Americana Fireworks have
been confirmed.
PARADE:
Nancy Doucette said there are 42 registered entries. Someone from the Lions Club will
contact bands. A second band letter will be sent out. Sue LaCrosse asked if they wanted to use the same
person for commentating with Cable 12. She will e-mail Nancy the name and phone number of the person.
PHOTOGRAPHER:
No report.
PUBLICITY:
Sue LaCrosse said the Northwest Cities program will feature Earle Brown Days next
week. Unfortunately, this is really early, but in the rotation of the cities, this was Brooklyn Center’s turn.
Karen Youngberg will contact Aaron of the Sun Post for better coverage this year. There was a motion by
Phil Cohen, seconded by Shelley Klaessy to place an ad in the BC Buzz and to negotiate a price not to exceed
$200. Motion carried. Sue LaCrosse said Visit Minneapolis North will partially sponsor the Radio Disney
Party Patrol. Hopefully, we will secure another sponsor for the rest. Sue LaCrosse said she has redesigned
the Earle Brown section on the city’s website. She added a list of our sponsors and details about several
events. She encouraged everyone to take a look at it.
TRIVIA CONTEST:
Sue LaCrosse will contact Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to get more
information so she can make a flyer.
BUDGET/FINANCE:
The committee reviewed the budget spreadsheet. There was a motion by Phil
Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to approve the 2006 budget worksheet. Motion carried.
OTHER EVENTS:
Brookdale Health is going to be one of the sponsors of the senior golf tournament.
BILL PAYMENT
City of Brooklyn Center $51.48 Postage
There was a motion by Nancy Doucette, seconded by Mike Meyer to approve the payment of the bill.
Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Karen Youngberg said we will have a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser at Applebee’s on
Saturday, June 17 from 8:30 – 10 a.m. We need 10 volunteers to help that morning. Sue LaCrosse would
like more information so she can do a flyer. Joe Ericksen will let up put up posters at the Dudley.
Applebee’s does not advertise.
NEXT MEETING:Council/Commission Conference
Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Cathy Ballot to adjourn the meeting. The
meeting was adjourned at 8:40 a.m.
