Ritchie Miller by to approve the minutes of the October 18, 2005 meeting. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
The balance in the checking account is $2,957.27. The balance in the CD
account is $12,050.29 for a total of $15,007.56. There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody,
seconded by Ritchie Miller to approve the treasurer’s report. Motion carried.
BUDGET/FINANCE:
Phil Cohen said he would like to arrange a sub-committee meeting today. His
idea is to expand business solicitation. He may be able to tap into the North Hennepin Chamber directory
too. The city’s vendor list is another idea. Some of the issues plaguing us are the pull tabs aren’t doing well.
Hopefully the logistics will be better next year. The goal is to increase revenues and not exhaust our reserves.
He also plans to make some individual contacts. The main agenda is to run a good program. Karen
Youngeberg asked permission of the BCBA to solicit for Earle Brown Days. Councilmember Kathleen
Carmody is still interested in running the trivia contest. She said there would be tables of five to ten.
Questions are read and the group has about one minute to write down the answers. The cost would be
$10/person to play with money warded to winners. She thought of either Applebees or Brookdale as possible
locations. Monday, January 23 at 4:00 p.m. is the date for the sub-committee meeting.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR:
Toni Johns said the ad is done. The price will stay the same as last year. Cathy
Ballot picked up cards from crafters at the Columbia Heights show. They will be added to the mailing list.
Toni Johns said Bridgeman’s is interested in being a food vendor. Phil Cohen suggested inviting the BCBA
to be our organization this year to get them more involved in the community. The committee agreed.
BINGO
: Cathy Ballot reported they plan to have this event again.
FAMILY FUN & GAMES:
Karen Youngberg will talk to Henry Dorff to see if he knows some
seniors who would be willing to go out to solicit prizes this year. She is still looking for someone from
Rotary to work with Ritchie Miller this year.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Shelley Klaessy asked for suggestions for entertainment. The Teddy
Bear Band was one suggestion. Sue LaCrosse said it depended on who they were trying to attract. If it is
families, a children’s band would be great. If looking for adults and seniors, a group like Reuben Ristrom
would be better. Shelley Klaessy said hopefully the mom’s club will help.
KID’S FISHING CONTEST:
It was decided we would offer the fishing contest again.
MUSIC/FIREWORKS:
Sue LaCrosse will make contact with Americana.
PARADE:
Nancy Doucette asked if last year’s letters could be e-mailed to her. She will update and e-
mail them back. Toni Johns will make contact with Brooklyn Center High School Band.
PHOTOGRAPHER:
John Stewart said he may have to cut out some events.
OTHER EVENTS:
We have Dora the Explorer for sure for one hour and face painting for two
hours. Karen Youngberg will contact the National Guard or North Ambulance for a helicopter. It sounds
like T.G.I. Fridays will be having the car show again this year.
