Meeting Minutes
March 21, 2006
PRESENT:
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, Phil Cohen, Karen Youngberg,
Shelley Klaessy, Nancy Doucette, Mike Meyer, John Stewart, Gboyee Seeyon and
Sue LaCrosse.
Karen Youngberg called the meeting to order at 8:01 a.m.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded
by Nancy Doucette to approve the minutes of the February 21, 2006 meeting. Motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT:
No report.
BUDGET/FINANCE:
Karen Youngberg said we will have a pancake fundraiser at Applebees. It will
be held on Saturday, June 17 and will cost around $5-6 per person. She will try to give it some additional
publicity at the Dudley. The committee discussed the spreadsheet of income and expenses. There was a
motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to approve the preliminary budget.
Motion carried.
ARTS & CRAFTS FAIR:
Karen Youngberg said that Deb Lester will be able to help.
BINGO
: No report.
FAMILY FUN & GAMES:
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody and Karen Youngberg have been
purchasing prizes.
ICE CREAM SOCIAL:
Shelley Klaessy reported the schedule as follows:
6-8 p.m. Bridgeman’s Ice Cream; 6:30-7:15 p.m. Teddy Bear Band. There will be two face painters and a
balloon artist. She hopes the Mom’s Club can help again.
KID’S FISHING CONTEST:
Sue LaCrosse said it is all set. She ordered 150 dolphin treat bags to be
given to the first 150 children who sign up for the contest. She asked if that was enough. The committee
said yes.
MUSIC/FIREWORKS:
Sue LaCrosse said Midnight Breeze and Americana Fireworks have
been confirmed.
PARADE:
Nancy Doucette said that Milner’s will pay $75 to vend this year because sales haven’t been
very good. She is in negotiations with Tri-State Judging. There will be no judging of floats. She would like
to use Pro Sound again for the awards. Nancy Doucette and Mike Meyer reviewed what the committee has
done so far.
PHOTOGRAPHER:
John Stewart will take as many pictures as he can.
PUBLICITY:
There was a motion by Phil Cohen, seconded by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody to
book Radio Disney Party Patrol for $3,500. $2,000 of this will be paid by Visit Minneapolis North. Motion
carried. Karen Youngberg will talk to Aaron at the Sun Post.
TRIVIA CONTEST:
The Trivia Contest will be held Friday, June 23, 7:00 p.m. at Brookdale in the
food court. It will cost $10/person with cash prizes. Councilmember Kathleen Carmody will put together
more details so we can make a flyer.
OTHER EVENTS:
The fire department will hold an open house on Saturday, June 24 in the afternoon.
Since the fire department may have a helicopter at their event, we won’t have one at Central Park this year.
BILL PAYMENT
City of Brooklyn Center $113.52 Postage
There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Nancy Doucette to approve the
payment of the bills. Motion carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Councilmember Kathleen Carmody briefly reviewed road construction. She will keep
us informed as more details become available.
NEXT MEETING:Council/Commission Conference
Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. in the
Room, lower level at CITY HALL.
ADJOURN:
There was a motion by Councilmember Kathleen Carmody, seconded by Nancy Doucette to
adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
